Re: My New Tank

Thanks Cheeks. After you make 5 or 10 stands you start to get them looking pretty good

Wit

NO DOUBT. I fired this baby up and it made my mak4 sound like a wisper. It is crazy loud but I knew this before i bought it. There are quiter linear air pumps out there but since I had the basement all to the fishes and the furnace. I bought it anyway. I immediately took it down stairs and plugged it in I was really afraid I was going to hear it through the floor. but after shuting the door to the basement all was fine. You can run them far away from the skimmer without problems so if it is still too loud I can move it to a different part of the basement and run an airline.

Re: My New Tank

Thanks Gina!

I started adding water today. That means I better get the plumbing done, lol. right now the overflow or the returns aren't hooked up. But the way the ro is going I have a few days! Actually my lfs is making water for me too so can get this thing full. But i am dreading all the 5 gallon pails it will take.

I am hoping to get the skimmer tube tomorrow and the airstones tuesday or wednesday. so buildup of that will follow. I figured the volume of the skimmer will be ~20+ gallons. It should be beastly.

Re: My New Tank

i can understand the wait for RO water,,,when i switched form the 72 to the 210 it took 5-6 days and that included using the 72's water!

20+gal in the skimmer,,,,,thats added volume!!!!

Re: My New Tank

Well it is as full as I can make it now without the plumbing in place. I dumped what I had left of a 160 gallon IO bucket in there. I imagine I will need another 50 gals of salt or so. Will probably end up buying another bucket.

The bottom skimmer tube came today. It was pretty roughly cut so I spent a little while trying to true the ends. It is getting passable now. I have to pickup another tube of weldon 16 before I glue the ends in place. I would hate to run out mid glue.

Here is a shot of the skimmer tube. 12" PVC x 36"tall

Re: My New Tank

Yeah it is going to be big wit. Scary big. I can always shut it off right?

I had a disaster on tuesday. New won malfunctioned and fried my sump with all the corals that were going to be transferred to the main tank. It wasn't a huge loss because I didn't have much left after a pretty big crash when I moved my tank last year. I lost only one fish luckily but most/all of the coral. I really don't know how any of the little guys pulled through. the tank hit 96. But I did some big water changes and got stuff somewhat back to normal. I am hoping not to have a huge ammonia spike hit the tank and mess with the surviving fish. I am keeping an eye on it.

But I recieved a bunch of boxes today. One had my starboard in it. So I cut that up to fit the bottom of the tank. I started working on my drain plumbing. I glued some unions and ballvalves to the drain bulkheads. I have to run my spaflex next. That should be fun.

My airstones and uniseals should come tomorrow so I can complete work on the skimmer. I am really interested in seeing this thing in action. Its going to be intersting to see if I can get it sealed well the way I am trying to bolt on the flange. I am working around pieces that I already had so it is making life interesting.

Re: My New Tank

Tommy.....
If your using the same flex pvc that i'm thinking of then it's got little "ribs".For your sake I hope it's not that kind though.A friend I used to install carwashes for used the same stuff and cursed it after 6 months use.Reason being is that those "ribs" will let algea build up to the point where it will slow your water flow.
On a lighter note I like what you've done in the 3 view design though and the stand looks quite impressive.Looking forward for more shots of your progress.

Re: My New Tank

MMM the flex pvc that I have has ribs but they are very slight like the a sheet of paper. Not like pool hose that has pronounced ribs. I don't think its the same stuff. I'll take a pic of it for you.

Thanks for the compliments. The tank is starting to come around. I can't wait to have it all put together. I have a week until I have to go back to work so I am hoping to cram alot of work in the next 8 days.

Tom
