Re: JKreef's 75 Gallon Project

Haven't posted an update for quite some time so I figured today is as good as any to do so. I've gotta make it quick because I have a class in an hour.

Finally removed Hera the tyrant Lyretail Anthias, she was getting a wee bit aggressive again...

Houdini decided to go on a hunger strike when he was doing oh so good, so no more CBBs for me.

All of the other fish are doing great, especially the psychedelic mandarin...I get a lot of comments on how fat he is.

I pulled out the heaping forest of halimeda, taking it to work tomorrow to hopefully get some store credit.

And since I haven't added anything to the tank in some time and I've beeing wanting to add more rock, last night I treated myself to an order from www.reeferrock.com for 55 lbs of their premium dry reef rock. I'm going to use it to lift up my existing approx 55-60 lbs of LR to create a new aquascape. I didn't want to have to cycle the rock, that's why I went with the dead rock, and figure in no time at all it will also color up and become "alive" So when the time comes I will rescape and post some new pics.

After class tonight I'm going to work to buy a Bubble tip anemone, a few snails, and perhaps a new fish if one catches my eye (we have a nice fairy wrasse, and also a Lamarcks Angel ) So I'll update you on what I get later tonight, and maybe post a few pics of my other pets.

Talk to you all later!

Very sound plan, and yes in a few months the dentrifying bacteria and coraline algea (providing sufficient calcium carbonate and light) will colonize that base rock! Great job and can't wait to see the new critters!

Re: JKreef's 75 Gallon Project

Tonight I purchased the Lamarck Angel from work as well as a BTA and also a tiny...and I mean tiny RBTA.

The tiny RBTA is a clone from a larger RBTA that we had in at work quite a while back...well this little guy got sucked in to a powerhead and torn quite badly, split again, and now I have a half of that. Perfect bright red/orange bubble tips, but only 1" across. I dealed with my boss and got it for $25, so not too bad.

Lights are out in the tank now, so I'll have to post some tomorrow after work.

Rock is expected on Friday, so hopefully it comes then because that's my day off. Sooner it comes the sooner I can re-scape and post pics!

Re: JKreef's 75 Gallon Project

Well I've been quite busy between work, school, and maintaining all of my cages and my tank the last week and a few days so I never got the pictures up of the rock like I promised.

The new base rock came on Wednesday of last week, and I didn't have anytime to touch it, so late last week after the lights went off the rock went in. I really like the diversity in shapes and sizes of the rocks that I got so I would really recommend www.reeferrocks.com

So heres the new aquascaping.

Re: JKreef's 75 Gallon Project

Wow! It's been a loooong time since I've updated this thread, I'm way overdue for some pictures for you all. The tank has definitely been maturing nicely, and after a few months of being burnt out on working with my SW tank, I've started to polish it back to its former glory...and now starting to fill in those empty spaces on the rock with corals!

My old job at the local pet shop was really stressful, since then I've moved to work in an aquatic shop started by my old store manager that left the other store. The sweet part is that my discount includes buying products/equipment/livestock all at cost plus a slight shipping charge...so I'll have it brim to brim with corals in no time.

Here's a few current pictures of my tank....

I'll start to become more active on the boards again, the insanity of the last few months has really slowed down.
