New 240 Tank - Page 6

Woodstock.. I'm confused, nearing the end of the cycle? How is that possible? There has been two fish in there for 5 days and live rock in there for 24 hours, how can that be? That is what is confusing me... maybe this is a mini cycle before the real cycle?
I don't know....

It's possible that you have enough nitrifying bacteria that it's converting the ammonia immediately to nitrates so you're unable to register them with athe test kit. Which test kits are you using ?

I'd say the live sand and rock you added have helped speed up the cycle.

Thind one is a filter feeder of some sort....

First one appears to be a Nassaurius or a Conch. Second is a sponge or tunicate. Third, I'm not sure what I am looking for.

lemme tell ya- you are going to love your clownfish!!! the only reason I wanted a salt tank was because i wanted either an ocellaris clown, or a percula clown, and I got the captive bred juvenile percula like you have in your pic. they are so fun!!! and they will eat right from your hand!!! (also hardy, they aare related to damsels, but alot nicer). your nitrate spike was most likely caused by the LR cycling. i agree with what everyone else said, but I started my tank with LS, LR and a couple of fish (damsels) and it didnt even register any spikes, except for a little ammonia spike at first. if you have stuff growing in it already, your doing great!!! keep up the great work and inspiration to those of us wanting bigger tanks!!!

corvettephreek, you are right, there is one little guy that litteraly will follow me from one end of the tank to the other (8 feet long). They each have their own little personalities (yeah a fish with a personality). Ever since I had my first salt tank (70 gallon show) I wanted a larger tank. Well here I am 20 years later with my dream tank, all I can say is WOW. Sometimes I just sit in front of it and am in awe with it all.
Anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement, I see you are from Northern California? Well, guess what? I grew up in a little town in northern california, lets just say I was north of Redding.... by Mt. Shasta.... are you familiar with the area?

The thrid picture I know is not very good, but if you look very closly there is a small round feather looking thing. There are four of these in the tank, that we have found thus far, they dissapear into a tube if disturbed in any way. Any idea's on what this is?

A harmless filter feeder. I have hundreds of those in my overflow/sump.
