Kim, I have about another 2 weeks before the fish will be returned, by that time I am hoping that the shrimp (fry) will be in a seperate tank within the main tank and I will attempt to raise them from there. I have been doing water changes about once a month right now. What I am planning is this, one more water change in the next day or two, there are two more shrimp still carring eggs, once they hatch I will collect them into the fry tank within the main tank, then it will be cyclopeeze and other foods to get them going ( I want to see what the book has to say about foods), they will stay in the small tank for about 30 to 60 days, that should give them enough time to grow out to the point where they will want to be on the bottom and no water changes during this time. From there they will go into the 20 gallon that I am currently using as a QT tank (no I do not use copper in QT) they will hopefully grow out from there.

So the experament begins..... wish me luck

One last update, I am getting what I think is coraline algae growth. It's very small on the front glass and it doesn't want to come off. If I use the mag float to take off the algae most comes off but there are small spots all over that just laugh at the mag float..... So I tried the ole scrapper to get it off (kent scrapper) and let em tell ya this stuff is tough.... is this a good thing? and what is the best method for removal from the acrylic (front and sides)?

Thanks

Well I made a change... yes I changed out my skimmer, it just wasn't big enough to handle my tank, so I went out and got me a Euro-Reef, I actully found a model that would fit under my tank, and would be external to the sump (no room in the sump). It's up and running and has already produced (running about 14 hours now) an inch of the nastiest darkest skuz I have ever seen.
I bought the CS8-2-RC Euro-Reef... very nice skimmer.

Thanks, yeah this is my dream tank... been dreaming about this tank for about 18 years now ever since I had my first FO tank.
The ich seems to be gone at this point and the salinity in the QT will be slowly adjusted over the next few days (provided the hurricane does not hinder my progress). If it looks bad for the weather I'll wait another week, maybe I should just wait another week just to be on the safe side... hummmmm
I have the generator all ready for power just in case we get hit.

Update, starting week 10 now, tank seems to be doing awsome. Had an out break of red algae, but that is now under controll. Phosphates where a little high for my liking so I added a phosban 150 and that took the phosphates down to 0 where they belong. Calcium is holding at 420 ppm and Alk is at 10, so I have added 6 new sps frags (thank you brian) I only ordered 4 but received a couple of bonuses. All the frags are looking great today with all polyps extended. My anemone is still going strong and eating on a regular basis. Fish are about ready to go back in the tank after the ich outbreak several weeks ago. They all went into QT 5 weeks ago and have been ich free for at least 4 weeks now, so the salinity level of the QT tank is in the process of being raised slowly.
I have also upgraded my skimmer to a Euro-Reef and I believe that has helped with the small algae issue I had.

I will try to post some picks later today or tomorrow.

Very cool ! I'm anxious to see how much growth and color you get with the T5's. When that Cap grows up your gunna have to hook me up with a Frag

The one's Brian sent me were doing great but were killed by my new bulb which had a drastic increase in PAR and I didn't acclimate like I should've.

How long you think before I start seeing growth (a noticable growth differance)? Should I target feed to encourage growth? I have read some feed some do not, what are your thoughts?

Thanks

I don't feed my SPS they get plenty of food when I feed the fish. IMO/E SPS will thrive in a low nutrient high light and proper water chemistry cal/alk.

The problem lies in having a mixed tank LPS and softies with SPS. Not only do you run into problems with chemical warfare but in a lower nutrient environment some LPS and softies don't grow as well and some will actually decline in not target fed.
