Thanks Kim, looks like next month (after we get back from the keys) I will be adding 2 to 4 large pieces of live rock from an established tank and an Arco or two. A guy I know is having to tear down his tank and he is going to sell all his live stock and rock to the local club. I hate to see it happen he has a georgious tank.

Everything is doing very well.

Just an update on the peppermint shrimp eating the bristle worm. Well I went over to investigate further (see if the worm was dead already) well when the shrimp caught the worm it was about 3 inches long, the worm is now about an inch long and still alive, yes it's still alive and trying to get away. This is only the second bristle worm I have seen in the tank but it is nice to know I have animals in there that will keep them in check.

Thanks all..... I observed something last night that made me almost cry.... my Regal Tang has ich.. So I stayed up in the wee hours of the night setting up my 20 gallon QT tank, luckly I had about 30 gallons sitting on the back porch ready to go (it been mixing about 4 days) so I filled and tested and adjusted temp all night. So when I get home the removal of the rock and the hunt begins. I know for sure the Regal has it, the clowns (that have been in there from day one) do not show any signs and the new 6 line wrasse does not show any signs either. So my question is this should I remove ALL the fish or just the tang? I am going on vacation for a week to the keys starting this saturday and won't be back until the following saturday. I am going to treat with hyposalinity and have time to complete this process (slowly lowering the SG level) but I'm not sure about all the fish or just the one.

What I am thinking is this.

Remove the regal tang to QT and treat until we return (this way I won't have to worry about kiling all the fish)

Then when I return start over again with all fish for the recomended 6 weeks.

What I am afraid of is an ammonia spike killing 4 fish in a 20 gallon tank, I do have some bio balls I left in the main sump and I have some rock in there as well.

So what do ya think? All the fish with the rock and bio balls or just the tang until I return?

IMO I would add only the Tang especially since you'll be leaving for vacation. To add all of them and keep from getting an ammonia spike would be difficult unless you did frequent W/C's, you'd really have to monitor the water quality.
Just curious how will you compensate for evaporation while your gone in the QT tank ? It's very important to keep the SG at around 1.009 during the entire Q period.

Cheeks, I put a mark on the side of the tank "water line" and am watching it now, the person that will be coming over to take care of the fish will add water (RO/DI) when necessary (will be checking it twice a day). So far it drops less than a 16th of an inch in 24 hours. I have also added some of my base rock pieces that where in the sump to the tank to help combat any ammonia spike, along with that and a piece of filter material from the sump as well I am hopping to have enough bacteria in those pieces to take care of the bio cycle.

Yes that's a good idea I have done that in the past when treating my Regal Tang with Hyposalinity, the only problem is you'll wipe out all the fauna but it'll be reseeded when placed back in the tank so no big deal. Also forgot to ask, are you using a refractometer to measure salinity ?
