Mine took a couple of months in the first pic you can see it start to brown up

And this is about 8 months after the pic is small but it's the only one I have left.

I have several snails in my tank that where sold to me as Cerith snails and as far as I can tell that is exactly what they are (thank you Dr Ron). Now I am looking for some info on their reproduction, really I'm looking for the incubation period of the eggs they lay and what to expect when or if they hatch.

One of my Ceriths laid a very long stringy set of eggs on the back or the tank in the corner and I'd like to raise them.

Anyone have any success with this?

Thanks

The only success I have had with snail propogation is the Keyhole Limpets that were indigenous to my live rock. No other snail kids for me!

The larger is caulerpa!! A VERY evasive macro algae!!!!!!! Remove the rock and scrub it under hot water, then blow torch it! Hurry!!!

The 'grassy' looking stuff is hair algae.

Really bad stuff huh, are you kidding me? It's been in there for 4 weeks now and hasn't done much at all. Well water change time tomorrow and it will be taken care of then I guess. Is there any good stuff out there and how would I recognise it?

I did a water change (about 20%) and took care of the bad stuff and tested my water today.

Here are the latest parms:
Ammonia 0.0 ppm
Nitrite 0.0 ppm
Nitrate 5 ppm
Alk 2.86 meg/L
Calcium 380 ppm
Phosphate .03 ppm
Temp 80.5
Ph 8.0
SG 1.025

Now my question is this, I thnk my Calcium level is a little low what is the best way to bring this level up and maintain it. Also the phosphate level, is that ok? I would expect it to be like zero but I did get a little reading.

Any sugginstions are welcome.

Thanks

I have added a Tunze 7095 microcontroller and 1 Tunze Turbella Stream 6000 (they only had one in stock) a second to be added shortly. I must say very nice powerhead, mine ticks a little once in a while (I think the blade hits the side) I'll have to pull it out and check it to see if I can find the issue. Now I got some flowage, the skimmer seems to be working better now as well I have to clean it about once a week as I get about 2 to 3 inches of gunk in it a week.

Now another question, how long do you run your lights a day? Currently mine run about 7 hours a day but I am thinking about increasing that to about 9 hours a day... any suggestions?

Thanks

You can use a 2 part cal/alk or drip Kalk and add a calcium supplement when necessary. In a tank your size if you plan to add stony corals it'll probably be cheaper long term to add a Calcium Reactor.

I'm running actinics for about 12 hours and MH for about 5 but anything within 8-12 hours should be fine.

Thanks Cheeks, I know nothing about calcium reactors.... So I guess my studing continues. Can you tell me if there are any major differances in Calcium reactors, what to stay away from and what to look for?

Thanks

I've never used a Calcium Reactor but I've heard great things from Geo reactors or you can even build your own.

warnberg,
There is a store in gibsonton called the ftffa it deals with all kinds of aquarium things and is alot cheaper than the aquarium stores around town. I live in Brandon if you need some help with some things let me know. I know alot of people that are very knowledgable.

Well here is the latest update. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. Sitting in fron t of the tank the other night at feeding time I have discovered that three of my peppermint shrimp are carrying eggs. I'll try to get a picture and post it.
Does anyone know how long they will carry eggs before they hatch?

Thanks

The cycle for shrimp fry is approximately one month start to finish from the time the shrimp molt until they give birth.

Your fish and corals will love the snack!
