Nice fish Wit!
I had no idea they could be difficult like CBBs! Your on the right track though with one already eating for you! Hope the other one follows suite.
Your tank looks great and I'm glad to hear you haven't had more problems.

Dave keep an eye on the cinder blocks, they are made from concrete and coal cinder, which is basically Ash and can have any number of chemical compounds in it.

I remember a few years ago a buddy of mine had a mature tank and wanted to try his hand at growing Gonipora. He did all the research and had a decent setup to give it a shot. One day while continueing to gather more information on thier care he posted a question on Aqualink. Well he got slammed pretty hard and the flame throughers were out in full force. His arguement was that if a person did his research and tried thier best to provide the care they needed that thier was a good chance something could be found that would give folks a better chance to keep them alive, instead of no one trying and allowing the mortalities to continue.
I always felt that was good enough reasoning, so I kind of bailed him out of the thread.
I think Dave is taking the same kind of apprach and the same thought.

ok,,lets get this puppy back on track~~

for the record, yes i know Idols are tough,,but so are copperbands and butterlys and numerous other fish. if one does not provide proper environment, then any fish can die, and if given care and and giving the best one can, they can survive and thrive. remember 20 yrs ago, the so called "easy fish" of today were the "tough fish" then.

i do not mind questions or comments, but lets remember that we are all learning continuously and at times new grounds must be tried. with out taking a leap new dementions cannot be explored.

Now that I think about it Aqua Escape in Raliegh Nc that had a MI that was huge. If i remember correctly he was somewhere around 7 yrs. old. and ate like a pig. Brian has a picture of it but he'll have to find it. Hopefully he will so he can post it. It was the first MI I had seen of its size, He was truly a beautiful fish.
Just about everything is hard to keep if you dont do the resreach but the size and age of Aqua Escape's MI goes to show you that any living creature given the right conditions could thrive.

I have seen that same fish many times. They had it years ago when they were located in Greensboro. They would toss a thawed cube in and it would eat like a tang..LOL~ It was a beautiful fish indeed.

I remember watching a program on spains national aquarium, they were feed MI's and butterflies with an artificial coral that had been dipped in a sticky almost syrup like food, then submerging it in the display so the fish could eat naturally. It was amazing to see so many butterflies ravaging these plastic coralheads, like they would in the wild.Just a thought...
