Re: jhnrb 150 reef

well we lost power for over 30 hrs on new years and created quite a problem for us here as we have special needs in our household for electrical (in addition to the saltwater hobby). So, we now have a generator with a transfer switch for emergencies with a remote start and stop so we do not have to go out side except to fuel. Gen. is a Honda 7000i. will provide enough emergency power to run neccessities, medical equipemnt, and pumps, heaters, one chiller if needed in emergencies.

Jen.

Way sweEeet!

Did you contract out that addition or did you guys do the work yourselves? Can we get a picture of the inside as well? What did your electrical emergency back-up system cost, if you don't mind?

Re: jhnrb 150 reef

well the cost is apprx as follows;

-Generator-Honda 7000I - I stands for inverter which gives a smooth sign wave good enough for computers and electronic equipemnt. eco throttle -gen runs only as fast as is needed. ($3000.00)

-additonal equipment cutout box, plug connector in gen shed, gas cans, fuel stabilizer, oil, #10 gen cable and two 240 4 pin cable connectors ( $500)

-Gen shed materials and labor ($1000.00 total- (labor 360 rest materials)

-Electrician, conduit, permit, ($600.00).

So the total project cost apprx. $5100.00.

This project was not a project for the aquarium system but for other reasons. so by upgrading the generator and putting it in as an alternate power supply for the house, the aquarium project benefits from it. The need was immediate for the anticipated power outages that might occur so the project could not wait for the diy week ender carpenter, electrician, painter, etc. I WILL POST SOME MORE PICTURES THIS WEEK END. SHED STILL NEEDS TO BE PAINTED OUTSIDE. USED PRESSURE TREATED FRAMING LUMBER, ASPHALT COMPOSITION ROOF SHINGLES THREE TAB, HARDIE PANEL SIDING 4 X 8 SHEETS, AND METAL LOUVERS 11 EACH, 5 TUBES OF CAULK I.E. BIG STRETCH, AND 100% SILICONE.

On another note I just resolved my dosing needs and ordered the Aqua Medic Reefdoser - Quadro and Aqua Medic SP 3000 Niveaumat W/auto top off pump system. this will give me the versatility to dose 4 items from individual containers, and to control the kalcreactor. there will be timers ect. to assit in the system. pics will come as the systems come on line.

Thats about it for now.

Re: jhnrb 150 reef

Wow! I hope everything turned out ok! Nice generator though for a back up.
That's one thing I'm definately keeping in mind for when we finally get a house. It's peace of mind knowing you have back up in case it's ever needed.
Thanks for the pics and description, very nice!
