Re: jhnrb 150 reef

Here is the 1st barrel full of water for testing bulk head fiitings for leaks. Holes drilled a bit over size but full contact of seal ring made. a ton of silicone inside and outside. Not an easy task. my arms not long enough to reach the bottom one. the hole cut in top to provide access and will be sealed back up when all the inside pumps air stones, and stuff are installed. pics before sealing it back up.

Inside no leaks so far.

Re: jhnrb 150 reef

A personal computer is only outdated when it will not perform the function or at the level you want it to. a marine system is kind of the same thing. The equipment may be replaced by newer technology, but, the older equipment will still do the job intended. I do agree though equipment will become outdated when it is purchased without a specific use determined past the general purpose. sort of like electrical. as long as it is kept in good condition it will perform the function it wast designed for. same with marine equipment in my opinion. Thanks for your observation and you know if the rest of this system takes me as long as the 1st part you just might have a point.

Here are some progress pics from todays progress. bulkheads did not leak.
You are more than welcome to use anything you see in my thread. no problem.

inside of saltwater barrel. the large bulkheads are for the iwaki pump for circulation, the rio 802 left over from my last system is to pump water to the system for makeup, the ridgid airline tubing is for injection of air.

air line for injection, airline for blow off with black silicon, and valve to control makeup feed. only to be connected to system when water changes are done.

last bulkhead

well lets see, i have to finish the makeup/ro barrel, complete the auto makeup, run the final water line to the ro/di location, set up the dossing jugs, complete the cy-294 wet dry modification in the filter chamber, complete the modification of the 100 gal sump, finish installing outlets, lights, timmers. Then its back to the main tank to change out the mh fixtures and install the new fixtures with shields. change out the clear tubing in the main tank and possibly run schedule 80 ridgid pvc. reverse two fans for exhaust in the end of the canopy, and then if no leaks add salt, complete final setup of aquacontroller , paint equipment room exterior, install coffee pot and hooks for coffee mugs and anything else i have forgotten. Maybe I need to take a vacation to finish up the project.

Re: jhnrb 150 reef

Very nice John. I like your design for the barrels.... I will be working on mine in a week or two.

What silicone did you use?
Did you silicone the heater suction cups? I think I will...
Are you going to have a way to get just ro/di?
How do you plan to clean the salt water reservoir?

Regular aquarium silicone. just happened to be black. I used the fluval suction cup bracket assemble and a Rena heater siliconed to the barrel. heater fits in bracket. I have pumps in each barrel for export. Access through top and brush with handle, export with pump to outside etc. Ill post more pics soon. not done yet.
