1440 Gallon DIY Aquarium (image intense)

Hello All,

I currently am running a 300 gallon 96x24x30 FOWLR.

I am upgrading to a 1440 Gallon Fish/Mixed corals concrete and acrylic tank.

Tank is going to be made of concrete (with rebar reinforcement) and acrylic viewing panels.

Dimensions = 132x60x42. I will elaborate a little more on the set-up and plans once I get home from work. Here are a few pics. of construction to get the thread started. Enjoy!

Before

During

Please Enjoy!!!!

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

I think we have another BrianE here.
That's gonna be insanely large.

Any details on how humidity/moisture issues will be dealt with?

Thats is a very ambitious tank!!
But I have the same question as Mike, what are your plans for dealing with excess humidity and moisture. A year or so ago I heard of this guy with a 7000 gallon tank, but he had to take it down because the moisture was causing his house to rot!!

There was a website called mr5000.com or something similar that involved a 5000 gallon DIY reef tank. As I recall, it rotted out the the entire ceiling and floor where it was located ( I think in a basement) causing some SERIOUS repair costs. I am sure it is a consideration of yours, but I would be interested in seeing how you plan on ventilating the area.

I can't wait to see this, best of luck and I will be watching along the way!!!

Take er easy

I have some more photos to post as soon as I download them.

I am hoping to pour the concrete for the tank tommorrow.

Regarding the condensation and humidity! I have spoken with "Mr4000" on numerous occasions while planning my tank and have taken the neccessary pre-cautions to ensure I do not have any of the issues he had.

He was running 1000W Halides and I will be running 400's, his tank was also nearly four times the size of mine. I will have an air exchanger installed to remove air from the fishroom and bring in fresh air, and the room is going to be sealed off from the rest of the house with a vapor barrier, greenboard (water-proof drywall), and then coating with a mold, and milldew resistant paint.
