Seafansar's 45 cube

Finally set up my new toy! It's an Oceanic 45 tech cube with a 10 gallon sump. We built a (I guess you could call it) "stand" for the stand to make it 6" taller.

Filling it up with freshwater to test for leaks.

It has three glass doors on the sides, so it's easy to access the sump.

Sump up and running. I'm going to put rock rubble in the middle section and a sponge in the first to help stop microbubbles from the skimmer from getting into the tank.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

I love the tall tanks

So thats what you meant when you told me to raise just a little. That bottom 6 inch or so you added? Is it just sitting on it? If it is then looks pretty good -like one piece.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

Thanks!

Yeah, that was what I was talking about. The real stand just sits on the thing we built. It was pretty easy to make, just some 2x6" for the middle braces and pretty 1x6" for around the outside that were smooth, so they'd look good after being painted.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

LOL. I know. We actually have the 150, 20 gallon with my clowns and anemones, 10 gallon frag tank, and 90 gallon corner tank. But the 45 is replacing the 90 gallon, so we're actually downgrading! lol.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

I've added a twinspot goby, RBTA (from my 20 gallon, need to get the other two, but they just wouldn't let go of the rock! I may try propagating one of them before putting them in this tank), and a skunk cleaner shrimp. I have a linear blenny, CBB, and green mandarin in quarantine that I'll put in this tank also.

So future stock list will be:
twinspot goby
2 or 3 RBTA's
skunk cleaner shrimp
pair of percula clownfish
linear blenny
green mandarin
CBB (will go in 150 gallon once it gets bigger)
and corals (SPS, LPS, anf zoas)

Twinspot happy to be out of QT

CBB with blenny right in front of it. They both have been eating like pigs.

The mandarin is skinny, so I put her in my frag tank that has no other fish in it and is full of pods. Hopefully she'll fatten up and start to accept frozen foods (my spotted mandarin in my 150 does). I think it's going to be a while before I add her to the 45. She's really shy right now.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

Some new photos with the coral I added. It's jam packed! Since these pictures, I've removed the big brown SPS in the sand on the left side and replaced it with duncans. And I've added the CBB (has already eaten almost all of the aiptasia!), the second RBTA, and the mandarin.

Re: Seafansar's 45 cube

wonderful pics Sara.

Quick question, does your two spot goby spit sand on your coral or rocks or does he keep the sifting on the sand bed where it belongs. I had a diamond goby and he made a mess all over my tank, he would spit sand all over my rocks and coral, all the way till the upper middle of my tank. He was removed in short order.

Just sifts sand over the sand. I hardly ever see him on the rocks. But I'm sure each has its own habits. For example, I had a diamond goby who was great at not dropping sand over my rock and corals. He just sifted sand on his mound he made.
