Hi Guys, picked up some nice "free" FRAGs at the weekend from my friend up the road who has a huge 800Gallon system. His corals are amazing. To give you an idea he snapped off a 8" Acropora FRAG for me (see below), and you couldn't even notice it had gone from the mother colony. Anyway, I thought I'd share.

The first is an Acropora staghorn coral, not sure of it's complete name. But it's 8" tall and approx 4" wide. I hope it grows as well in my tank as it did in his. The second is a gorgeos Stylophora Pistillata with luminous green polyps and the third is posted under coral id unknown in another thread, hope someone can id this on for me. Cheers

The unknown frag appears to be a monipora species, maybe a vietnamensis? Just a guess....

Max you dog . . . . You've got me thinking . . . . . .

I thinking of plumbing in a 2ft cube into the existing setup. There is room next to it to achieve this. But instead of a clam tank, I was thinking of making it a fully functionally refuge with a huge DSB, lots of macro algae and loads of pods etc. I think those things can be as interesting as a tank full of coral. Two things though. I'm not sure if I have enough nutrients in my tank to feed the macroalgae (nitrates and phosphates), and I'm don;t know how much flow you should have between the fuge and the sump. I'm guessing as slow as possible to harbour the critters and pods in the fuge ???

Anyway bud, if I get into this and spend the ££££££ . . . . . your getting the blame

Hee hee

Your macro algae will let you know if there are sufficient nutrients. When I first added my sump/refugium the macro algea grew very well. After 6 months the algea is self limiting due to a lack of nutients. The sump/refugium is doing it's job, eh? My flow is on the low end higher at the top than the bottom of the refugium. 300 gallons per hour is the gross flow rate.

You gotta suck it up and deal with your beautiful bride, no blaming us! We had to go it alone and so should you!

Great looking colony...I mean frags

I would think with the amount of fish you have nutrients wouldn't be a problem and with you using the Tunze keeping detritus in the water column it should easily feed the cube JMO.

Here's what a friend in Brazil did very similar with what your planning to do and the bio-diversity is incredible....hope you understand Portuguese

Hey Rob, I'd really like to take a look at that . . . . . and funnily enough my Portuguese isn't what it used to be. LOLOLOL. Looks like you need a username and password to look at that web page which is a shame. Could you post some pics for me on RS . . . . or is there a guest login I could use.

Right . . . . I want to say first and foremost that this is all Max's fault. He got me going on the idea of a second cube tank plumbed into my exitsing setup about 6 weeks ago. Amazingly I didn't rush out and do anything about it at the time and waited until I got back from the honeymoon to start.

So believe it or not, I've nearly got the tank up and running now and it's cost me a grand total of £22 . . . about $14. SUPERB eh. The tank cost me £5, second hand but never used. A fiend drilled it for me. The wood cost £2 and the bricks to stand it on were less than £1 each. The only thing I've had to buy which I didn't have already was the Caribsea Aragmax Mud and Sand. I've added 2" of both for the DSB . . . . . wondered if I could have some comments on 4" of DSB on whether you think that's too deep. Also, do you need to leave the sand to cure or can I plumb this into my main system once the water has cleared. ?

Anyway, gotto go. Boss is watching me

Way sweet Brucey, how was your holiday here in NY City? What biotope are you shooting for in your cube?
