Great pictures, looks like the tank is doing great.

And congratulation on getting married! I went through it all last year, and although I had a ton of fun, I was really glad when the planning was all done.

Brucey,
The tank looks great!Congrats on the Emperor making it all the way to adulthood! And the blue throats look good too...
What fish do you have in the tank right now?

Congrats on the wedding!!!!!Does Lou know what she's in for?????????

JK Brucey...

We call the "Hen Do's" Bridal Showers on this side of the pond....And I second Tarasco's sentiment that it is alot more fun once the wedding planning is all said and done.

Well, first and foremost, congratulations on the wedding! I wish you both the best!!

Now, on to the tank and all the work you have done. What a showpiece!
You can tell that you have poured your heart into this set up. It is awesome to say the least!

I'm glad your newest additions have finally come out and feel quite at home. How do the other fish feel about thier new tank mates?
I'm in agreement with the others, you certainly do need to post more pics for us to see!!

Thanks for the update!

Hi Guys . . . . . thanks for all the kind words, on the reef, the impending marriage and the light in my life, my son. I truely believe after being in this hobby for 3 years now there are 4 keys to keeping a successful reef. Only 1 of, you can do with out but at the cost of spending more time on one of the others. I beleieve the keys are :-

1. Patience. A reef takes time, we all want the quick fix but there is just no way around it. Even now I wish my corals were twice their size but I just have to wait, just like the newbie waiting for his tank to cycle it all takes time.
2. Willingness to learn and accept critism when it is well based. Yep, well, if I remember back to the days in 2002 when I signed up to RAG and was thinking of starting a reef, If i'd really known what I would have to learn, it may have well put me off altogether. I think these days I have a wealth of knowledge behind me, but there are people here who still take my breath away with what they know.
3. Effort. Yep, a reef always needs something doing to it, some testing, some maintanence. We all know the story. The day you stop looking and caring about your reef is the day it will start to slip away.
4. Money. OK, my point being that the more money you can spend on automating a reef, the less effort you need to manually inject into it. It's an expensive hobby, but I have seen beautiful reefs run on a shoe string budget. I've been lucky enough to automate a lot of the tasks now (but it's taken 3 years), but the whole in my bank balance just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Doni, thanks matey. Yep I wish I could. But the Digital camera is Lou's parents so I only get hold of it now and again. Rumour has it we're getting one as a wedding present though. Cooool

Craig, good to hear from you bud. Haven't seen any tank pics recently matey ?

Mopecula. Thanks for the kind words buddy. Don't worry, sooner than you believe your tank will be just the same . . . . it just takes time

Tarasco. Yep you got it bud. Lou and her mum have been doing my head in with all the preparation. Best leave them too it I reckon. Just looking to reef diving in the red sea on my honeymoon. :-)

Hi Max, how you doin buddy. In answer to your question. 18 Fish now I think. Let me see, Powder Blue Tang, Brown Tang, Tomini Tang, Emp Angel, Bi-Colour Angel, Pearlscale Angel, Clark Clown, 3xPercula Clowns, Birdmouth Wrasse, Harlequin Tusk, Unknown Fairy Wrasse, 2xBlue Throat Triggers, Dwarf Lionfish, Marine Beta. And my nitrate is stll only 3ppm so i'm well happy.

Reefaholic. Cheers bud. Love your footnote. LOL

Hi Gina. For once you weren't up first to post just after me :-). Anyway mate, just for you, latest pics of my son

Hi Rob, yep only time will tell if they ever use them but the Emp Angel is still currently top of the pecking order at the moment.

Proud2bcanandian. Thanks bud. the 850 was planned for later this year but realistically now i don't think is likely to happen. The wedding has sapped all my savings and the funds just aren't there at the moment. So it's still on the drawing board i'm afriad.

Take care all
Brucey

Brucey,
What a handsome kid!!

Have you thought about adding some clams to the tank to reduce the nitrates?

Maxx . . . . . . I bought a baby Maxima about a year ago (only 1" long) and my Bi-colour harassed it to death. I would like to try a big boy . . . . approx 6" but it's a lot of investment to risk if the bi-colour is going to do the same again. I'm trying to convince my LFS to let me have one on loan for a week to see if it happens or not. We'll wait and see.

How about setting up a clam tank and plumbing it in to your system? It doesnt have to be a large set up. YOu could do a 30-45 gallon tank, plumbed in to your reef, flow wouldnt be an issue at all. You could get away with a single MH light, (150 watt would work if the tank was less than 21 inches deep, or you could go with a 175 watt if 18 inches or less in depth), and that would keep them away from the angel and give you something else beautiful to look at.
The fact that you alread have a thriving reef tank makes it so much easier to do. You could literally use a powerhead to feed the clam tank water, and single drain running to your sump. Clams dont need ,( or generally like for that matter) much flow. Use a semi coarse substrate if you want so you can eaisly siphon out detritus with one of those gravel washer dealies.....you'ld be good to go. Honestly the nost expensive part of the whole thing would be the MH lighting for the new tank.

Just a thought. I know Lou is concerned about the space this would take up.
But if you show her lots of clam pics and hpw pretty they are, you might be able to convince her to let you go for it.
