| Scopas Tang | Novas' Fresh Start 40! Hello everyone! I will be starting this new chronicle and keeping in mind to ask before purchase. The tank is not setup yet so this is an early early start. I plan on starting off with Marco Rocks and dead sand. I want to pretty much know whats going in the tank. I seriously dont want any apitasia! I plan on picking 3 fish at the most and will ask for opinions before purchase. Also I will start slow with corals. First things first is getting a fuge/sump and a new skimmer that is not so big and bulky. Wish me luck to a new and fresh start with everyone involved I can and will make a better reef! |

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. | Scopas Tang | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! I am serously considering the hang on the back fuge. It seems less work and less worries. It should work fine its really all about how I will stock the tank. I know its early but throw some fish out there that would be great in a 40. I really like the Midas! For skimmer I will go with the HOB Octopus it looks really nice. I am wondering if I get like a small piece or LR from my friend I should not have to worry about apitasia. He has never seen one in his Biocube. I am very cautious. Also offtopic, Apitasia X does now work! I have done it on many of them and correctly. They come back I tell you everyone of them. |

| Yes that's me. | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! Good luck with the tank this time around! if you can do it i would really recommend a regular sump vs the hob style. the added water volume will do great things for your tank and you'll be able to hide most of your gear keeping your display area clear of clutter. you can get a proclear Wet Dry and convert it to a sump with little work. I did that for my 20gal frag tank. anyway.. GL on the build!

| Midas Blenny | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! I've always been a fan of Midas Blenny's. i decided to go with a yellow assessor for my 40. the midas probably would have been a better choice. now that i have a few more fish in my tank i barely see my assessor(1-2 times a day). |

| Pistol Shrimp | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! Midas blennies a personal favorite of mine as well. If you are planning to use Marco Rock be sure to allow a good long soak in RO water changing the water often to leach out PO4 producing organics, there's way more there them meets the eye! After that a good soak in SW is best IMO then into your tank> It won't take much LR and sand to seed your 40 so just be picky with your choice. If your worried isolate it from the other rock and watch it for a few days (and nights) to look for HHs. Best of luck!

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! Good luck on the tank. Actually I have had great success with the Aiptasia-X. It seems to work great for us. You have already picked one of my absolute favorite fish to start with, but I am also a big fan of the clown gobies. In fact, most gobies are pretty cool IMO.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Novas' Fresh Start 40! Thank you for the insight. I do want to do it right the first time. So yes I will go with a sump. Oh and Zapcon maybe you can show me some of your plumbing so I have at least a clue what to do. I am not so savvy when it comes to physics and plumbing. Quote:
Since I am going the sump/fuge route It will take a me a bit longer to start, but not that much longer. If I want to start by next weekend I will not have my skimmer. I do think that I can cycle without the skimmer. Let me know what you think.

I lost my yellow clown citron gobie , I never figured out what happened. I remember he was healthy for months and months, and then all of a sudden lost weight. It would eat so much but get skinnier by the week. I am very certain it was the isopods. But you are referring to the small little yellow clown gobie. Which are great I lost one to a power head as well. UGH
