Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

My LFS has about the same SG as my tank. I just leave them in there long enough to get the temp the same.

Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

I just find it hard to believe that they are as sensitive as some people say. Think about it. A coral or fish is caught, put into nets, stored in some village, bagged, flown out to some transhipper, then again placed into a holding tank or shipped to the us to a wholesaler. Placed into a tank/holding bin or something, bagged shipped to your lfs, and again placed into a tank. Any of these systems along the way are probably not as good as our tanks that we strive compulsively to maintain. I really don't believe that any place acclimates new specimines for any period of time other than the LFS.

Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

That doesn't even count frags that are broken off, exposed to oxygen, some semi-toxic bonding agent and then placed in different systems. The lighting the corals get also are different from tank to tank along the way.

Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

oh yea, I have no doubt they are tougher than we give them credit for. I just acclimate because after all that stress I dont really wanna add any to it if that makes sense.

You guys QT and acclimate as you see fit.

1. What the heck does a pickled egg taste like.
2. Where do you get one?
3. Are there any gaseous repercussions the next day? lol

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

Every living thing uses stress to grow stronger. If a coral is stressed and dies from different conditions than it's evolutionary strategy has failed. If a coral can get stressed by different conditions and adapt, it can fill a different niche, and you have a hardy specimen. I know that water on coral reefs are 'constant' in relation to values, but I still think that the shipping process generally weeds out the weaker specimens.

Excellent idealogy. I have become much more picky or finicky when I pick out corals. It takes time to spot healthier stronger specimens. My best advice would be don't buy any coral that is white. Very few corals exist in a white morph. Wait for the more robust specimens. That is where hobbiest's selling frags to the LFS comes in to play.

Are you saying you will never QT again, because once I get the bio filter established in the 20 gallon it will be my QT tank, it was just having some pretty insane ammonia spikes because i set it up wrong

1. Its a hard boiled egg that marinates in beets, vinegar, and something else for like 3 days, and tastes just wonderful!
2. You can get them just about anywhere in the deli section, but we make out own, there is a total of like 4 ingredients.
Easy Pickled Eggs - Allrecipes
I take it back, there are 3 ingredients
3. Sometimes, yes there is, but this isnt Scotts thread, we are Men here and we dont worry about that kinda crap

Re: Jeremy's 90 Gallon Build Mayhem!!

I also have a bad habit of buying damaged/bleached corals and rehabilitating them. It has bit me once or twice, but the ones that recover usually are very hardy.

I too have done that. I was rewarded with most recovering. It was more of an eye opener when I shop. It's the reason I jumped at the chance to purchase my neon green baby carpet anemone. I've seen so many sickly pale versions that I couldn't resist one in such great health.
I will probably still gamble on the occasional bleached coral. The feeling of knowing you have nursed a sick and dying coral back to health is awesome.
