| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 Well I have a support question. I am planning on putting the setup up agains a load bearing wall that continues to a concrete footer in the basement. It will not be over this wich brings me to my question, do I need to add some extra support under the tank area to insure that it will hold all the weight? I noticed that BigAl had to add a support under his 90 and that is what got me thinking about it. Also Do you think the stand will look good in white wanut? All the doors for the cabinets will have miror centers, what do you think? I want this to look very nice as it will be around for a while. thank You, Shaun

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: The Amazing 100 Looks REALLY good. I do have a question though. Why do you have the center/canopy area now be flush across the top of the unit? It might be "Easier" from a Design/Build stand point. As for "support" it would be a guess at best. It depends on: Which way the joists are running that will be "Carrying" this tank. How "loaded" the joists already are. How "in-tact" everything is. Honestly I'd get a "structural guy" over there to look it over. Even WITH support there has been some "Settling" in my system but nothing bad at all. Better safe than sorry and it's so EASY to made adjustments now ![]()

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 The center is one section and the end cabinets are seperate sections, they do link together. The canopy does sit over the front edge of the tank and the entire canopy will hinge open to alow complete acces to the top of the tank. The lighting will be seperate and will also hinge up to meet the canopy, this will allow me to acces the tank without disturbing the light, like getting into the overflow for whatever reason. Also the tang I want is now avalibe. It is still a juvenile and the online dealer (cant find it localy) said it is only avalible once or twice a year. Shauld I get it now and put it in my 55 or just wait till the next time it is avalible, also wonder if he said it is only avalble once or twice a year to "force" a sale. I do not like pressure sales. Ohh it is a Lavender Tang. Thank You, Shaun

In the drawing it looks like it's lower than the rest of the assembly. I'm probably just "sleep deprived" and missing the obvious ![]()

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 It is lower. I made it shorter to give more of a mideveil look. I really like castles so it is kinda reflected in things I make and do. The side cabinets are also taller to help to balance it and direct attention to the tank. I mean if you think about it when you look at a structure you will almost imediatly notice the parts that are different. I will pass on the tang right now. I do not want to get him then stick him in my 55 just to stick him in an imature tank. I will wait till my tank is a little more established. Riht now I do not want to rush anything. So if it means waiting another year to get the tang I want then so be it. I will not be forced to make a rash decision just to come up short in the end, or posting a " My tang needs help" thread. My other concern will not be a problem for a while but I know it will come up. I will be using cured rack that has not been out of water in years. I will also be useing cured sand and all 75 gallons of water that all the sand and rock are in now. So how will this effect the initial cycle? Just a question to ponder. Shaun

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 Well it is home now. I was not suposed to do anything with it until after Ty's B-day party tommorrow but , well, why waste the night sleeping when I could be cleaning my new 100 gallon adventure? I am so stoked right now it is not even funny. I dont think there is a drug in the world that can get you this high. I know my arms and back are going to be killing me in the morning but we all pay the price for our love of this hobby. I had a friend help me bring it home and when I got home with it he said it looked like a mess and did not see why I even wanted it, well then his wife saw my 55 and just said , WOW. That made me smile. When he looked at that tank he was amazed at what all lives in saltwater. I also went through all the live rock I got and almost got the entire CUC. I got like 50 snails, 25 to 30 hermits and even an anemone crab. There are all sorts of polyps growng on it. He said it was all cured and I knew that it was all in water with a light a heater and some pumps to move water but I never expected this. All in all I did not get buned, 1 100 gallon tank, 1 skimmer, 4 pumps, 2 heaters, 150 lbs of live rock, 1 18watt uv sterilizer, a 35 gallon rubermaid can for water, another 5 gallon salt bucket, and some misc. All for $450. Not to bad. He also wants me to keep him updated on my progress. Well back to work, Shaun

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 Well I have some more pics but cannot get photo bucket to open. Me and my nephew have been working our tails off building this thing. I know the first pic does not look like much but if you look at the tank before I started you will see a huge difference. Several hours soaking in vinager water did wonders and allowed the dried on algae to scrub off nicely. I do have the canopy finished and the sump in place, most of the plumbing has been done, (easier to get to now than after it is finished), I have been laying out the doors and the how to do the latches, do not want to kids getting in there, and found some acrylic scratch remover that I will be trying out. Almost the entire inside is covered with little scratches and will be a pain to get out. I am getting in a little hurry so I had to walk away for a bit before I made any mistakes. Now that I have sat down and reliezed what time it is I will probably be going to bed. But overall the build is coming along quite well. Shaun

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 Just to let you know the tank plans changed when we first got started, this is bigger than I thought it was , I had the mesurements but just did not relize how big it really was. My wife is haveing second thoughts about it being in the living room. The end cabinets have been reduced to one ane no mirors. Shaun

| Achilles Tang | Re: The Amazing 100 Well there will not be any end cabinets, just not enough room. I have started to work on buffing out the scratches, thats going to take a while. Also the lights can hang from the canopy without problem or they can sit directly on the top of the tank. I am just not sure whitch is the way to go, hanging will allow the light to spread out to the sides better but sitting on the top of the tank lets me get more light in the tank. Either way is not a big difference. I will probably hang them off of the canopy this way they will lift out of the way when I open the canopy. I have decided to post even my thoughts up here as I did not get a single response to my pics. Guess they are not very good. I had to work yesterday so I was not home when a friend of mine stopped by. He had not seen my tank and was surprised and impressed with it so far. I will be transfering everything out of my 55 into the 100 when it is ready, that sould be fun. Also got some cool zoos just do notknow there name. They were for new membes in the club and were leftovers that were offered to me, well you cant say no to free frags can ya. Well I need to get going and try to get my stand finished up. Shaun
