Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

it seems that people like 1 or 2 snails per gallon and one hermit per two gallons. do you have any shrimps? there fun to watch and they clean up leftover food faster then snails or hermits

nope, i don't have any shrimp yet but planning to get some on Monday, what are some good types of shrimp to get? Im also planning on getting more snails and hermits, Monday.

one of my rocks looks like a soft green fur ball lol but its kinda gross and my clean up crew doesn't seem to want to go there.

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

well, I got a magnefloat today and cleaned all my glass of that algae, this made my tank look like 50% better, it'll be a 100% better once all the algae is gone.

I also got 5 scarlet hermit crabs, 5 astrea snails, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp man are they expensive, the small ones are $20 a piece and 2 cat's eye turbo snails.

I feel embarrassed of going to the LFS now, I've been going atleast twice a week for like 2 months lol The store is big but I feel they all know me already and this That fish place, Im talking about.

How my tank looks like now:

Tanks looking good, the algae is kinda annoying but it goes away, all tanks get it. This is going to be a beautiful reef no doubt!

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

Thanks Jeremy, I know all tanks get it but its so boring waiting for it to go away.

anyway there was hermit crab slaughter last night and lost an undetermined amount of hermits, I just see little bodies laying around without shells. I assume they fought each other, ugh I guess I have to buy more.

I was thinking about getting myself a sea orchin to help with the algae, are any good one anyone would like to recommend?

You didn't lose the hermits...they probably just molted. All crabs, shrimp, and lobsters do it. All this means is they grew like a tiny bit lol. During the process they shed a layer of skin and grow some more. Mr.Crabs does it on Spongebob...(I don'tn watch it I have to watch it with my cousin lol)

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

If you wish to limit the amount of hermits and snails you need, and want to get rid of the ugly green algea very fast, the thing i'm talking about is a seahare, as long as you have fast algea growth, and not alot if any competition for the creature you will love them, they do a great job and can be very entertaining. As for the corals i would add some lps like a brain or flavia or even if you can find one a colourful leather, they all can be easy to keep, if you want to keep an sps right away a montipora is very easy to keep, they come in a variety of colours, and morphs. For the shrimp i would look into A skunk cleaner shrimp, A blood shrimp (my personal favourite).

Happy reefing.

Yea, when you add them to your tank the iodine levels are different, and i believe that you can convince them to molt my making iodine in the tank higher, I am pretty sure it works for shrimp, which is why the majority of the time you will see the "skin" the day after a water change.

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

that makes sense today was the day after I did the water change.
i'll also look into getting a seahare but only if my green HA gets worse right now its growing mainly on the two pieces of dry rock i put in.

@silverflamez88- yeah, some of them are snotty and most don't know much about fish :/

If you are going to get a seahare make sure you can take it back once it eats all the algae otherwise it will starve, and you are also going to want to use a reactor or chaeto or something to make sure it just doesnt come back, algae needs nutrients to grow and once its gone if you dont maintain those it will come back no matter what. Other than that its a great idea.

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

I already have Chaeto in my fuge and it doesn't seem to be growing, I even put a small piece in my display yesterday to see what happens. I probably need a better light for my fuge.

Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef

Its probably not growing because all the algae in the DT is making it really hard to do. If you take care of that algae i bet the chaeto will take off
