| Cabbage Leather | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef Thanks and good luck to you. Sorry I haven't update in a while but I almost gave up on this chronicle since I thought no had posted since my last post. I have huge amount of updates to revive this thread today so i'll get started. here are some pictures after I got my tank filled and aquascaped to my liking. ![]() also here's pics of my 8 bulb ATI light fixutre <3 ![]() ![]() I was literally blinded when I turned them on. After I aquascaped, I let my live rock cure for a few days and since there wasn't much die off, I decided to add my substrate, I went with 40 pounds of live sand and 40 of dry sand. here are some pictures of my tank after the sand settled a little and I got my fixture mounted 6 inches above my tank. it kinda looks like it snowed on my rocks. ![]() My ATI's turned on ![]() I also built a stand for my skimmer and now sits at 9 inches of water as opposed to when it was like in 14 inches before. ![]() A week after I put my live rock in the water it fully recured again and my tank cycled, I decided to get some fish to get started but in another forum where Im keeping another journal I was advised it was too much. As of today after 24 hours of adding my first three fish to my tank and the 2nd day after my tank cycled here are my parameters pH: 8.2 Ammonia: 0 ppm (it topped at .50ppm) Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0 ppm Phosphate: 0 ppm kH: 8 drops (using API testing kit) Calcium: 28 drops (using API testing kit) Salinity: 1.025 my current stocking list is 1 true percula clownfish 1 false percula clownfish 1 yellow watchman goby Im sure I went a little quick on the fish but hopefully everything will go alright over the next few weeks. and my CUC is 2 Turbo snails 2 astrea snails 4 blue legged hermit crabs 2 red legged hermit crabs more pictures ![]() Clownfish! ![]() well this a huge post and a quick rundown of what went on during the time I didn't post. Im still looking for advice of when to add my first coral and which it should be. Im mainly interested on LPS and SPS later in the future so I don't want invasive species of corals. |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef Looking very good, the scape came out to look very natural. You might want to make a few additions to that CUC, it seems really low for a 90 gallon, but there isnt much to clean up right now so it works for the time being. LPS and SPS arent my areas so I cant give you a whole lot of advice there. I like to see what people are doing with 90's, over the next few days im looking for inspiration on how to do my new 90,just bought it tonight! Anyways, tanks looking very good Mil, I am definitely along for the ride now ![]()

| Cabbage Leather | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef lol, I think I remember you and you did ask before where I live, you live close to Ohio right? In other other news my tank is going through the first diatom stage with the brown algae stuff growing in some rocks, so its not too bad. I think i'll get more hermit crabs tomorrow since the 6 i got don't wonder too far from where i placed them. :/ |

| Cabbage Leather | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef ok so the brown diatoms have really taken off now so I went out and got 2 more Aestra snails and 4 more hermit crabs. I also got myself a nice emerald crab The green algae is also starting to grow on some rocks I was wondering how long does it usually take for this process to end? |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef A lot of the time people read and don't post, so please know that we care regardless. Your tank is coming right along. The diatoms are a stage all new tanks go through. How long and how bad is generally determined by your source water. It is one of those things that just takes time. Now get those hermits and snails working on the green stuff. ![]() At this stage of the tank one of the hardest things to avoid is overfeeding. Remember your 3 fish do not need very much food at all no matter how many sad eyes they give you. Sorry, this is my big downfall so I always assume others do it as well. I almost forgot to say. I Love your lights.

| Cabbage Leather | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef Thanks for the replies ![]() Im using RO/DI water so I think my tank won't hit hard by the algae. here are my parameters after having my fish for 3 days. pH 8.2 Ammonia 0 ppm Nitrite 0 ppm Nitrate 0 ppm phosphates 0 ppm glad to see no ammonia spikes or anything except the algae growing lol Edit:@lcstorc - sorry about your tank crashing, I hope everything gets better for you. edit #2: I have a question about my refugium, is it necessary to have a DSB in it? the sand bed I have in there is about 1.5 inches since I didn't have enough live sand to add more but I do have extra dry sand so could that work? incase I do need a DSB and right now my refugium also has a some chaeto and a piece of LR btw. also here's a picture of my tank in its current algae stage, even though its not very visible on the pic ![]() one of my turbo snails ![]() Last edited by Miltonic : 02-19-2009 at 10:20 PM. |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef Not really sure how I missed this update, but im here now! Tank is looking good, the parameters all look in order, and to answer your question about the DSB no, its not necessary. I know there is a reason people have them, but I dont exactly know why, it has something to do with an anaerobic zone for bacteria or something like that, but they are not required. Anyways, looking good PS - That is one heck of a light fixture, love the way it looks and also how it makes the tank look

| Cabbage Leather | Re: A Tank for xx - 90g Reef @Jeremy-Thanks! I decided to stick with the sandbed I have now in my fuge to grow macro algae and that should help with the nitrates just as the DSB. anyway the green algae stage is getting worst on some rocks and they are getting covered, I really need more snails, and hermits because the one i have are working slowly. should I try to remove some? |
