Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I put a new bead of silicone over the old seals, they didn't look too good. Was afraid of messing it all up by removing the old stuff- its not going to be for show.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Sorry there hasn’t been much going o in this thread. I haven’t got much done on this project. I still need to empty out the room I am planning to use as an equipment room, collect equipment ( by the way, ya got an extra 17 hundred?), and buy or build a stand. I plan to through some money at this project soon so then something can happen.

I'll keep you updated

just keep posting ( or start )

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Well you haven't been posting but I'll update any way...
I haven't built up funds for this project much, SW hasn't been on my mind much. I don't think a silent system is possible at all. Thinking about it;
the noise would be coming from the plumbing to and from the basement ( support system). The support system witch are there to keep the water quality up contains these components;
Heater
Skimmer
Fuge
Water flow
None of those except the heater look like they need to be incorporated in the DT 24/7. I think I could be able to get away with cutting off flow from the sump/ fuge to the DT at night. Putting a heater in the DT and sump will keep the whole system warm 24/7. Power heads in the DT and the flow from the fuge the sump will keep the whole system oxygenated 24/7 and the fuge and skimmer can live fine for a few hours without the DT and the DT can do like wise.

Concerns;
water chemistry fluctuation. The whole system will be at the same reading before the main pump would shut off for the night. Different factors in each part of the system would create water chemistry differences. Fish poo in the DT and whatever the fung and skimmer might do in the support system. I don't think this would have an adverse affect on any animals as don't plan to keep SPS. There shouldn't be much of a shock to anyone when the pump kicks on as the water chemistry shouldn't fluctuate that much. But...
What do you think?

Like I said earlier SW hasn't been on my mind much. The 29g I have all my corals and shrimp in has been very forgotten and very taken over by algae.

I don't think there's a saving it. I could tear it down and transfer everything to the 10g QT but how would I control algae there?

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I got the fish room going. I moved all the **** outa there that was taking it up before. The 29g and 50g(sump) are in there final locations. I need to build shelfs and move all my fish stuff in there still but its something.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Here is a layout of the room.

Next to the shower ( below it in the pic. ) I will put the shelfs. I already bought wood for them. The bottom two will be about 24" deep, the upper one will be a work surface. The top ( 3rd ) one will about 11". All 3 will span the whole space from shower to wall ( 34" ).

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

for the stand I decided on the Oceanic american Oak series- black.
Of course I will mod it. A center brace will be added in the back, nickel handles on the doors to break up the large surface and cut down the peice attached to the left door that covers the ap betwwen the doors, I want to be able to open either door first. I would like to support the front center better but I see no way.
I need to set aside a couple hundred for it but I want to order it before the prices goes up again.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Forgot to add;
I will run a small ( about 3/4" x 3/4" ) strip in each front corner help support and stabilize the front frame.
I may run a bead of black silicone around the base of the tank as the stand dose not hide the tank frame.

Btw, WE NEED MORE POSTS IN HERE

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

The display tank is upstairs, the sump is in the fish room. I'll enjoy by closing the door and forgetting its there for two weeks at a time.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I got electrical run to the fish room. ( better than the extension cord ). 3 outlets on there own 20A breaker. I wanted more but went with only 3 because the landlord might get suspicious about 12 of em when I move ( whenever that might be... hopefully not anytime soon ).

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

My chemistry opinion:
I think the tank may go through a nitrate/ammonia spike due to waste buildup overnights, but should stabilize after a week or so of circulation cycles.
I would plan for small WC after a week in the new config.
