| Manta Ray | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle Mixed reef, really mixed. Clams too. CUC will be mostly snails , probably a brittle star in there as well. I am really not good at sticking to stocking plans ( I don't impulse buy, just don't set it in stone ) so I won't bother with any. A few fish I am interested in are purple firefish, and an ocellaris clown.

| Manta Ray | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle ...75 GALLON AQUARIUM!!! It was only $103 with tax. Black trim. I would Like to have done a custom rimless but this is within the price range. It has no overflows but at $200 I can do without. I don't think I will drill it myself so I will be stuck with the hang on overflows but what can ya do? I am overall very happy.

| Manta Ray | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle Acrylic tanks are strong! I threw out the dual fuge. Figured id release a little anger I might have. I stuck a screw though a board and hit the tank. Nothing! Hit it hard, like I was batting. Left a needle point sized dent is all! I decided to try some blunt force power; I turned the bored around and hit the tank again. The paint on the bord just scuffed the tank. I wasn't mad to begin with but this thing was winning now! I kicked it, then iced my foot. Ok then, to the curb! I loaded it up with other garbage ( mostly scrap wood ) and brought it to the curb. They never back filled the cement so the curb sticks up out of the lawn, like a 10" wall. With the tank full of trash I dropped it on the curb. Wanna guess? Well at least it cracked this time. I picked it up and shook it until the crack on the bottom widened until the bottom fell out and dumped the trash. It was a 34x 11x 13"t tank built from .22" acrylic. DIY too. Wow!

| Manta Ray | Ultra quiet plans I need this system to be silent. The maxim amount of noise it will be allowed to produce is equal to the nose made by the friction crated from your blood cells rubbing on your veins. Get what I am saying? I will be sleeping just a few feet away and cannot tolerate nose at night. I am planing to do a low flow sump. Have the most the flow come from a CL. Water daring from aquariums to sumps usually falls and has air in it. That created noise. The tank is not drilled so I will have to use one of those hang on overflows. All intakes and returns for the CL will be under water. The pipe will not look pretty so I will have one intake and one return pipe, posting them in the back corners will help to not draw attention to them. They may extend into the tank with various openings. I would put the sump in the basement except the room the tank is in was an addition so under each of the 4 walls is a foundation, there is no way to plumb it to the basement. Between the overflow, air in the pipes, the micro bubbles that will create popping on the water surface in the sump, and the return pump I think I will have to be shutting off the sump for the night every night. The skimmer is also very loud at night. My concern with shutting it off is is how long will it take to start skimming again in the morning. If I do have to shut off the sump nightly the heater will have to be hidden in the DT. Will the skimmer be able to do its job if in a 12/12 cycle? Will the heater in the DT have any adverse affects? Will I be able to find a really quiet external pump for the CL pump for $200 or less? Or should I go with PHs? I don't like the look of them or how they are a PITA to position and keep where you left them, but if they will quieter and cheaper I will go with them Will they be quieter and cheaper?

| Neon dottyback | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle When I had a HOB skimmer in my living room, I bought a timer and had it only come on a night, and it worked alright. There shouldn't be any problem with a heater in the DT, most tanks without sumps do it all the time ![]() I also saw this on here once upon a time about a silent overflow if you want to drill the tank: BeanAnimal's Bar and Grill - Silent and Fail-Safe Overflow System

| Manta Ray | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle Thanks but I am not going to drill it. I did enjoy that link though. My only real concern is the skimmer. I could run plumbing around the base of two whole walls in the room and then through the duct and into the basement if I need to do a sump there. For flow I could rig up some spray bars to powerheads and hide them behind rock. Kinda like combining the CL and PH methods. It would be cheaper and maybe quieter.

| Manta Ray | Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle Ya know, if the overflow box is wide enough I could do the 3 pipe idea in that article, assuming the HOB overflow is silent this could work.
