Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I got the system more sown. The stand is gone, its apli at the curb now ( anger release ). I have to remove the substrate from the tanks and wash that as well as clean the tanks.
Then I will begin building my system. This might take awhile. As in about a month till start.

Good luck to you, at least a clean rebuild will allow you to do everything the way you want it now.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I got my tanks cleaned out!
Bad news is I did hell on the acrylic. I put maybe 60,000 scratches in the DT.
What do you guys think will work best to rid me of them?
I found this kit, seems alright;
1 - Acrylic Scratch Removal Economy Hand Kit
I also found these; the first and 3rd products;
Novus Polish Scratch Remover

Which of these two would you use? Or do you know know of something better?

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I'd say that if you got that many scratches in the acrylic, that you are never going to really get it the way you would like it. That's one of the downsides of acrylic.

In reading the entire thread, you seem to be planning to tear down your existing system and rebuild it.

My own thoughts are that you'd be a lot better off going out and getting a new reef ready tank, 4 foot long, in the size range of 70 - 125 gal.

The tank is one of the less expensive items in this hobby, and by getting a new tank you'd solve all the existing problems in the acrylic tank. You'd also have something that would have a much larger volume of water in the same footprint. Since you plan to build your own stand, you could build it a little long so you could use the existing acrylic tank as the sump, and maybe even use the existing sump, as a refugium.

I think you'd end up with a much better system, without spending that much more money. Keep in mind that you could spread out the costs by living with existing lighting and filtration for awhile.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

I am going to keeping the lighting and skimmer. A large upgrade like that dose have benefits but isn't practical. Now would be the time to upgrade though so I am going to look at tanks. I really don't want a stand glass one with the thick frame, there are annoying disadvantages to acrylic but I think I will stick with it.

ARE YOU ALIVE? LETS GET SOME POSTS IN HERE!

I don't know what I am going to do for the DT. Probably a different one. If I don't go custom it will probably be a AGA 50g ( 36x 18x 18"t ). I like the width but it will stick out into the room interfering with the high traffic area. Also it has the same foot print as my 65g which will be just around the corner, I don't know if that will have an affect on anything.

I have a 90 that is 36x24x24, and I really like the footprint.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Theres a bunch of tanks I would like to have the reef in, but three feet down the wall the tank will go on there is the opening to the living room. Two feet down the wall around the corner there will be my 65g planted. So I have to keep the size of the reef down so it doesn't make the 65g look small.

Re: renaissance glorieuse; A reef chronicle

Well, I asked a dumb question, so it's understandable that I'd get that response!

What kind of coral, fish etc, is what I meant!
