Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

Welllll I left the sump running all weekend, come back to find it sucking air. HMMM... getting kinda frustrated with this whole sump thing. Just about to pull it and put the skimmer on the top and a hang on back fuge and call it good

On a happier note, the amonia is off the chart. the Shrimp are out of the tank and picts are soon to come, the water looks a little green ATM, not sure why

Is the tank evaporating to much to last the weekend? All of the work that you have put into the sump, you can't give up now on it

The pics are great!!!!!

Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

I left the glass top on to prevent evaporation. I think I am going to remove that last baffle and give the pump more water to push, I think that will fix it. Still thinking about putting the skimmer up top so it can really skim. then I will use that skimmer chamber for the chaeto.

Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

I really don't get this, the sump is running puuurrrrrfectly again. Hmmm we will see how long it lasts.

OK here are some picts. Water is a tinge green?? I need to get more sand off the rocks so I took picts before. I can't move the skimmer up because it wont hook onto the tank, and so it stays..

Rockscape... Now remember I still have 16lbs of cured rock to add.. I am gonna put the 2 nano PH from the other tank in the back (when I take it down) and move the one that is there now to the right side

1. Full tank with the flash (green water)

2. Left side

3. Right side (the blue glow is the 12.5 tank)

4. Right back (roomy)

5. Left back

Shameless Picts

Any suggestion on a better skimmer with a small footprint that would fit inside the sump or HOB.. this one just dumps water all over the floor... Stoopid Coralife

I love the rocks. they are some nice big peices. But I absolutely love the big one on the left. it has teh resemblance of a face. Eyes, jawbone and some teeth. Put some daisy polyps or Zenia hair, can you see it? If not send it here, I can deal with it just fine.

Lets see a good pic of your sump and maybe we can identify your problem.

Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

Actually I think I got it. right this second it is running perfectly as well as the skimmer. I will see when I come in tomorrow morning. I took one of the baffles out, gave the pump more water room and so far so good.

If it is messed up in the morning I will snap you some shots. Thanks

Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

hey bren, forgive me if i go over anything that you may have already got answers to. been sick for a week and am a bit out of touch.

I recommend the CPR skimmers. the SR2 or SR2+hob would work well for you. I have the SR2 hob in the bottom of the gf's tank in her sump. small footprint and not a lot of height clearance. the regular SR2 is a in sump version and would sit nicely in a sump.

as for the return pump and sump issues. Having an open top sump or an open top tank for that matter will give you a ton more evap. with no partial cover over my sump i get about a inch or more per day of water out of my sump. with a partial cover i get about 3/4" of evap per day. I measured out some fill lines on my sump with a sharpie so i know when i'm low and how much has gone since my last top off. I can go about 3 days before i get to the point where my pump will start to suck air. If you're going to be gone for more than a day or 2 you might want to look in to an ATO system. there are a number of DIY versions as well as a few nice prefab ones. I am going to be testing out the JBJ ATO system in both mine and the GF's new system.

everything looks really nice

Re: sambrinar's 75 gals office sanity

Thanks Zap! Glad your feeling better. I think I have the skimmer figured out if not I will look into that one! I may cover the sump, but I like the open top tank.

I have the glass on it now, and I hate it! I really think it blocks a lot of light with the condensation that it catches.

BTW ready to order the light?
