Hey Playa .... as always, it's gorgeous. I can only dream of getting corals like that over here in the UK ..... remember the beer / FRAG exchange whenever you come over the ocean.

Two things mate, I wondered if you can expand on.
1. We always see amazing coral / clam pic's. I wondered if you could let us know what fish you have in there.
2. Do you ever get turf warfare breaking out between your corals and if so how do you deal with it.
Thanks bud
Brucey

tg that is remarkable! You need to teach me to do that:-)

The coral looks exactly like that, you can even see the pink tips on it. The coral below is green with soft sky blue tips and with your magic you are able to expose it.

thanx tg:-)

Hi Luis, I have an older version of Photoshop (V.6). So, I don't know if the tools are the same on the newer versions.

Two ways to do it, depending on what other colors are in the pic;
1. Under Image > Adjust > Selective Color - you choose the color you want to modify (like red, blue, white, whatever) then modify only that color (in the pic) by using the sliders in the box. In this case, I could push magenta and cyan way down, and yellow way up. But this way didn't work completely for this pic, because it had other green corals in the pic. I did use it because the coral was a yellow-green and the other green coral didn't have yellow in it - So, I picked yellow in the Selective Color menu and pushed yellow way up and cyan and magenta way down. That too it part way where I wanted it to go.

2. I had to use this 2nd way; either using the lasso tool or the magic wand (usually a combination of the two) you gotta select the area you want to change the color on. So, you can get most of the coral with the lasso tool, then hold down Shift (with the magic wand tool picked) and start adding the edges (that the lasso tool missed) until you've got the whole coral selected. If you hold down the Alt key with the magic wand, it deselects the region you click on (Shift to add, Alt to subtract).
Then, you can go into Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation and move the Hue slider towards yellow.

Almost all the tools only work on the selected region, so once I got the hue yellow, I desaturated it, because it was too bright a yellow (I was guessing on shade). Then while the whole coral was still picked I nudged the Contrast (in the same menu) around till it looked right.

I used the 1st way on the tips, because they were the only things in the pic that were white (close to white anyway) and so went with Selective Color - chose white, then pushed the magenta up high, cyan and yellow down.

Took around 5 or 10 minutes.

Another cool trick that I use all the time is; use the wand or lasso or combination to pic the backround - then go to Filters > Noise > Dust & Scratches. You push the top slider in that menu box until the backround looks good - it gets rid of spots and bubbles and pushes the backround into softer focus. You gotta play around with the numbers on this because too much will create an outline around the part that's in focus. Then, anything I missed, I use the 'clone stamp' tool to clean up (this one Alt-click picks the stamp area to use - adjacent to where the bubble is to get the same color - and then just click where the bubble is and the stamp stamps it out. Plus the blur tool helps.

Hope I said that so it's understandable?

Cool, Johnny. I don't know much about that one, but figure they're all similar.

Here's that thing with the dust and scratches and clone stamp. (I took some yellow out - trying to help show the blue tips a little bit).
