Re: OK a 65 G Slowly but the best i can make it

This is what i've name the pit earlyer, actually underneath it.

I've done some evacuation holes here too, for the return pump, should irrigate the pit, pods and all very good.

This is where the return pump will connect with the PVC pipes at the top

Re: OK a 65 G Slowly but the best i can make it

Well i've tried the left branch to see if it would tip over

Soon i'll be cutting the excess eggcrate and it should be time for the resin and crush corals to do their thing.

Well that when good, no tipping over. It need some ajustments to solidify it. I'm glad i tried it . So i did brace it more at the top and at both ends of the other branch, and the main body. and then refoam a bit.

I'm still on one can. Thank god it has a long spout, so when you want to use it again, you just cut the dry end off and you can continue to use the remaining foam. Today i'll be finishing the pit and edging the foam with a knife to make it look more rock like shape, then the resin and crush coral to make a rock finish look.I also got to cut off the excess eggcrates, from the main branches. Busy day today.

As for my biocube, it will stay there. They're might be one or two big coral i might move to the new tank. But i like the way it looks, for now. as for fish; i'm still debating to move my clowns in there and one year later would put an anemone for them.Still on my brain for now. but like you said one project at a time lol. thank for dropping by.

could you tie all the rock on to the PVC and eggcrate and then do the foam all at once,I guess its better to use the foam as you go to help support the structure though

that gives you a bigger home for the coral that out grow the cube,or you could frag the coral as they grow, and stock the new tank that way....

I have a bubble tip anemone in my 150,but my perc's don't seem interested in it at all,I do have an anemone crab living in there, may be why or may just take a while

Yes the foam helps to stabilise the structure and add strenght to it. But some parts have to be foamed at the end. As an exemple, the second structure that goes on the back wall has to be put before the sculpture. Because some of the arms ,or branches can only be put , when the structures are inside the tank.So i'll have to do some of the work outside and some inside. So when they're in there, they are not coming out until i undo the tank. Its a one shot deal. Some like to move their rocks after a year or so. I'm not like that. The reef will be there to stay.I'll do most of the foam and resin outside, but the finishing touch for the secondary arms and touch ups will be done when they are installed in the tank. Then it curing time and cycling time.

I never was one for rearranging, once I have it like I want it,I did used to take my rock out and brush off the excess detritus, that proved to be a lot of trouble and seemed to start a new cycle every time....now I just use a powerhead to blow off any detritus build up on the rocks and use a sock in the sump to catch it.....with the way your keeping the rock above the sand,it should be about problem free,as far as trapping detritus under it goes.

Re: OK a 65 G Slowly but the best i can make it

Now most of the second structure is complete just the finishing touch to do. Probably tomorrow . I'm taking a break . Going out for fresh air.

Ok here is the famous pit; its a bit square for now, its will change when we're in the water and have sand and all. But for now thats the shape of it.

Here's the pit, full of rubble, for the pods to reproduce and bacteria to colonise.
