Re: 8 gallon biocube

I bought one of these tanks earlier this year. I had it running for about 2 months, but things got to hectic and I took all but the water and rock out. It's been running with just circulation and no light since. Kinda sad...

This post makes me want to get a new desk that's big enough to keep it on so that I can bring it back into my room. Right now its sitting next to my 90g looking sad

Re: 8 gallon biocube

do you have anything in chamber 2? and did you remove the sponge in chamber 3?

The sponge acts as a "bubble" gate and helps to lessen the amount of bubbles that get sucked in to the tank from the pump. you have to clean it often (once a week at least) but it's worth the effort if you really want to lessen the bubbles.

If you don't have anything in chamber 2 then i would suggest something to slow or soften the flow of water so it doesn't churn up in there and create bubbles that flow in to chamber 3 and eventually in to your display..... you could also raise the water level up in your tank so chamber 2 has less of a "fall" and will create less bubbles.

When i had my BC29 i had the CPR skimmer in chamber 2 and raised my water level up i never had any bubbles in the display but i did have "pouring water" noise. that was quickly remedied by adding filter floss to the spill over. (note: had to change the floss out every other day) The floss provided a great place to catch debris that was floating in the tank and provided the "break" i needed to get rid of the noise and any bubbles.

Re: 8 gallon biocube

That sounds like the flow from chamber 2 in to 3 is not fast enough or your water level is not high enough in the whole tank......

try stopping the pump. and letting the rear chambers fill to the desired water level (filling the tank with additional water in the display area.) allow a minute or two for the water levels to equal out. then plug in the pump again and see how the water levels change... again let it run for a minute to see.

I was able to get chamber 3 up to 2" from the top to keep the bubbles from happening that way.

for reference. I had the water level in the display area up to the top of the wall (just a hair under it) that allowed the rear 3 chambers to be higher than normal but also reduced bubbles and kept the upgraded pump from running chamber 3 nearly dry.
