Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

wow nice with pics i see . so no overflow box . One more question if you dont mind . ( i'am planning a future 40 G Breeder ) how much flow are you getting thru that 90 deg elbow and the drain as a whole ? does it make noise ? what diamentor is the bulkhead and drain line ?

Thanks sorry for all the questions ...

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

the drain is all 1". the return is 3/4" with a ball valve. it prob. has about 350-450gph going thru it. its not too loud when opened all the way. but i dont leave it full power for too long at a time. you normally dont hear it.

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

i've been thinking about my fish stocking list and i was wondering your opinions.
as of now i have:
1 unarmed perchlet
1 yellow assessor
2 green clown goby's

soon i will be getting 2 picasso clowns

i have been thinking about getting 1-2 more fish just so i have some more movement. i really like midas blenny's, yellowhead jawfish, and i have also been wanting a dwarf angel. and if that wasn't enough i went to the lfs the other day and they had some pretty sweet shrimp goby/shrimp pairs.

what do you guys think would work out the best for my tank?

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

update....one of the lfs' here had a sale on blue/green chromis. 6 - $20. i was only going to get 3-4 but everything i've read says you should keep at least 6. so i got 6. i figure i'll trade them back in if any of them get too large(they're real small now)
i'll post some pics later when the lights are on

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

this morning when the lights did turn on there was only 5 chromis. no sign of where the 6th went. its probably for the best, 10 fish is alot. somebody stop me when you think i'm maxing out the bio-load. i still want a pair of clowns and a wrasse at least.

Re: Jbob's 40 Breeder

Nice progression! How's the Catalina fairing? I wouldn't be surprised if that Hawk fish eats him. Great job on the scape! IMO you are at or beyond your bioload limit for the age and size of your tank.
