Talking My Snowcasso Clownfish Tank!

It is beginning to come together now! It's been slow since I am also putting together my 300 gallon clownfish growout system also but here are a few pieces I have so far:

Equipment:
29 gallon AGA with an external overflow
Lit with 4 x 39 watt T5 fixture
20 gallon sump
100 watt Jager heater
Reefkeeper controller
Euro Reef CS-6-1 skimmer

Livestock will be:
Two rose bubble tip anemones
One green bubble tip anemone
Some of my young picasso clownfish babies
This tank will be stocked with nothing but BUBBLE TIP ANEMONES and some of my picasso clownfish I am raising.
**I already have plans to upgrade to a larger tank but right now this will have to do**

Pics to come this weekend!

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone Tank!

Vicki, I've wanted to do an anemone tank for a long time now. With the garage as my "office" I now have lots of room to work with

But yeah, I'm addicted for sure!!!

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone & Picasso Clownfish Tank!

I began setting this up 2 weeks ago (9-9-08). There is no livestock in it yet.

Here is what it looks like today. I will seed it with live sand & rock from my display.

Here is the 20gal sump. Today I will install an EuroReef CS61 skimmer in it

I plan on adding one green bubble tip (GBTA) and two rose bubble tip (RBTA) anemones in it and some picasso clownfish. One RBTA is from my reef and the other is coming from MrCoral.com.

Here is a GBTA that I purchased at the LFS a week ago. Since the anemone tank is not ready, it is patiently waiting in a floating basket in my 120 gal reef.

I currently have two RBTA's in my 120 reef (clones) and I will be putting one of those into the 29 gal anemone tank. Here is what it looks like...

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone & Picasso Clownfish Tank!

Looking good Doni Marie! My tank for the babies and nem is 28g, so very similar to what you're doing here.

So, you are using rock from your system, and seeding the new sand with system sand as well. I'm doing that, too... the rock is coming from my sump and I'll be seeding the new sand with dt sand.

When are you planning on adding the livestock? Obviously, I'll be adding the babies when my place is up in line ( YAY! ). Because I'm using cycled rock and seeding the sandbed, will my system be ready for an anemone sooner than setting up a brand new system from scratch?

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone & Picasso Clownfish Tank!

Thanks Chriswho. I will try to keep this thread updated.

Barb - that is my thinking; the seasoned rock and sand will certainly help. I will be testing frequently and setting the skimmer on wet. I don't recommend doing so but I think with care, adding anemones soon can be done safely.
I am going to add the anemones first and then just a few clowns at a time.

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone & Picasso Clownfish Tank!

Thanks for the info. I know it's best to add the nem first so they acclimate to the tank before adding the stress of the clowns. I've been reading up on all of it and trying to decide the right way to do things here.

I'm getting water, sand and the rocks in the tank today. We'll see how long I will be waiting for the clowns. I'm wondering if it would be best to add the anemone first here, too, and keep a close eye on things as you are.

Do you think using established system water would be beneficial? My 65 is very stable... what do you think of using water change water to start the 28g? It's been four days since the last wc and I could do another easily.

Sorry for the hijack and all the questions... what you are doing is so similar to what I'm doing, and you are like a mentor to me!

Re: My 29 gallon Anemone & Picasso Clownfish Tank!

They prefer the red anemone for some reason. I have 6 fish and 5 stay in the red and only 1 stays in the green...
I gotta agree with them that the red is nicer looking

Lookin' good, Ms Doni! Have you gotten the anem from Mr Coral yet? If so how's it look? Healthy and happy? I'm thinking of ordering one from him, too, if yours is good. His prices are good and shipping to me from him is free. Can't beat free!
