Re: New Horizons By Frankie

I would like to read that article if you have the link Bax. That chart really tells me nothing. There is no data in it.
My reasons for using KZ carbon is obvious, I am putting all of my trust into there products and methods, I would be a fool not to follow through with what they recommend and think I can get the same results with other products. What would be the point of this thread then? LOL
The instructions on this carbon tells me to wash it with hot water. That is the first time I have seen that. Soaking in RO/DI is not new but hot water was a surprise.

Re: New Horizons

Nope, I agree, if your are going to give an overall system like Zeo or Probidio a try, jump in and try it, don't dabble.

Especially with the use of the zeolites, water chemistry is pretty important so, use thier carbon for now.

As far as the chart goes, IMHO, carbon helps water clarity and color but should not be the thing we lean on to attain the two. Good skimming first, then think about carbon, GFO and UV supplementation

It was a long time ago and I know where the chart is but the article? I'll look for the article, I know I saved it on one of the computers, I save everything

Re: New Horizons

Thanks Mark
Good to have you back with us buddy~
I agree with you Bax, Carbon should not be counted on for water clarity alone. I rarely used it in the past because the UV worked so well in keeping my water clear. They are not suggesting using UV with this system, (I guess for bacteria reasons though I don't think UV can sterilize water that much at the flow rates we use them) and skimming will not be enough.
Visually the carbon KZ sells is much smaller and shaped differently. Also it is much lighter i noticed. Here is some info they provide on it,
Produktbeschreibung

Hochqualitative Aktivkohle von Korallenzucht. Unsere Aktivkohle wurde speziell für die Riffaquaristik hergestellt.
Den Unterschied merken Sie deutlich positiv an Ihren Korallen.

Re: New Horizons

I use Google translate. Not to accurate but free I am able to communicate with the Germans on on the zeo forum so it's good enough for me. If it ever gets serious i'll purchase a better one.
They don't say much in that info anyhow. Just tooting there product really.

Re: New Horizons

Located a rock crab last night while viewing with a flash light! He's living in the cave just under that encrusting light green Monti in the second picture up from the bottom. The cave is literally made from the Monti and I have no idea how I am going to get it out. I took some pictures but the camera just is not worthy enough for night shots. I am going to try feeding the tank tonight after lights out to occupy the shrimp and put the mantis trap near the cave with some food. I'll most likely still trap the shrimp before the crab anyhow so I will have to remove them as I catch them. I will put them in the mangrove tank until I get it. What a pain!

Re: New Horizons

CL = closed loop.
Yes major changes for the good. The colors on the corals are more vibrant already and polyp extension is getting better and better. I am very happy so far. I cannot wait to be able to target colors and all.
