Re: New Horizons

Wow! I take a week off and you're now breaking it down for a TOTAL re-do? WOW!

Hey the new frag tank is going to make it a LOT easier! Sounds like a good long-term project instead of a really TIRING one nighter!!!

You da MAN!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: New Horizons

Thanks for stopping by guys
Glad your home safe Paul.
I built the rack for the frag tank today. It came out pretty good. I used 1" sch.80 for for legs standing up 1 3/4" tall and laid a sheet of egg create Bernie (pcityrott) gave to me as a gift. Tomorrow I will tear out all my lighting and set it up over the frag tank and begin removing the corals.
THen I will start to slowly remove the rock and set it in the sump.

Re: New Horizons

Wow! Great pics! I am really DIGGING this frag tank bro! Great work.

One question...I know it's currently "plumbed" into your main system but is it also able to be ran "stand alone"? I was wondering if you can disconnect it while dong all the moving and such so you don't have a sediment transfer into your frag tank.

Re: New Horizons

Yes, I can turn the feed valve off cutting it from the system when I want.

Re: New Horizons

I figured so. Can it run long-term isolated? I'm just trying to make some long-term plans for when we build our home.

MY system can Allen because I use Probiotics. I doubt though a frag tank that has no biological filtration could sustain itself for very long before crashing in.

Re: New Horizons

I removed all the rock Robert. The only thing in the tank right now is two Monti cap colony's and a few fish. I removed the Tomini and put him in the frag tank. The Sail Fin went to my buddies 210 and I also moved the goby to the frag tank. He likes to hang out on the corals so I figured it would be a good home until I scape the tank again.
Right now while the tank is bare I am working on cleaning up the sand bed. I built a 3 liter zeo reactor yesterday and started to dose a few new products to get better growth out of the corals. One week later and I can see a major change in the acro's from the new products.
I am debating on two lighting systems for the DT now. Either I will go with the ATI T5 module or dual Icecap 660's with a retro fit. I am going all T5's this time and leaving the MH's on the frag tank. I wouldn't hesitate for the ATI fixture but I am not sure if the 80w module for the USA will be out by the time I am ready and want more wattage then the 54w can deliver. That's about it for now. I will update again when I have more to update

Re: New Horizons

The 120g measures 48x 24x 24"t. The T5 reflectors are about 3" wide. Therefore you can get 8 over your tank. 8 '48''' bulbs at 54 watts each is a total of 432 watts of quality light.

That will run cooler and longer than over driving them.

Re: New Horizons

Better 640w with the 80w. If I diy the job I will be able to custom make my own reflector and fit 10 bulbs easy. Then were talking 54wx10@540w or 80wx10@800w. I like these numbers better with the corals I keep. Keep in mind I am a clam freak and 432w won't be that much at the floor of the reef.

^^ Here is a 60x24x24 150g with 8x 5' T5s on Icecap ballasts. Bright! The coralline makes it look brighter but look at the readings. Most likly 54w bulbs in that picture.
