Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Down to the perfect lighting for my frag tank
Had a bump in the build today. Just as I was gluing the overflow onto the tank the wife decided it was a good time to yell at me for leaving the door open and totally threw my concentration off and out the window. The silicone started to set wrong after that and the overflow slid a bit, so out of frustration I ripped it off and decided to try again tomorrow. Yeah, it's been a tough day

Re: New Horizons

I plumbed the frag tank up last night and turned it on this morning. Look at it as a 60 gallon water change

Re: New Horizons

Thanks Midnight
Because of the added volume of water I am needing to adjust my dosing schedule. Here is my new schedule from Bob (Aged salt) who has been teaching me about zeovit along with G.Alexander on Zeovit.com. I am starting to understand how this works and have been tweaking my system for certain issues that I have come across. I find it very easy now to deal with problems by adjusting my dosing schedual.

1)use 2 1/2 Cups carbon monthly.
2)use 2.5ltrs zeolites with the flow rate 200-250gph every 6-8wks.
3)dose 10 drops Bak every other day for the 1st 2wks. with new zeolites, then dose 2x's/wk.
4)dose 0.8ml Start2 2x's/day daily.
5)4 drops SP 3x's/wk; 1.5 ml PX daily;3 drops CV nightly. Consider PCS/ZZ/B-B down the line.

I am now getting ready to upgrade the lighting system over my DT to all T5's and relocating the MH's over the frag tank. That's the plan anyhow.

Re: New Horizons

Very Nice Frankie... I love your frag tank... Zeovit has fabulous product.. It truly can be a guessing game at times... I seem to have to adjust it sometimes too...

Re: New Horizons

It looks like your system has evolved quite a bit since I last saw it Frankie. You always did seem to have a nack for coral. Now if that nack of yours runs over into mandarin breeding let me know cuz I can use some help with that... BIG TIME!!!.

Thanks Kevin.
I have not breed mandarins. Yet.
Have you searched other forums for info? What stage are you getting stuck at?

Re: New Horizons

I have decided to break down my reef and start over. I have never been happy with the aqua scaping and always find it impossible to scape right with all the corals and rock in there. After Thanksgiving I am going to relocate all the corals to the new frag station, sump the rocks and pull the sand bed slowly. I need to pull a few fish also and this will make life much easier. Having a 47x25x12" frag tank will make this easy to do and I am pretty excited about it! All the lights will also be relocated and I will be building new lights for the DT all T5's this time.

Re: New Horizons

Thanks Vicki, Brenda and Heinz!
I will take pictures as I go. This is going to be a fast break down and a slow rebuild. I really want the DT to look spectacular. I have not been able to get that feeling since the 90 I had in NY when I first got into reefs. Now that I have a place to keep it all I can take my time and get it right.
