First pics with the brand new digicam

This is probably the closest any cam has come to capturing the actual color of the tank...

This is actually what my clam looks like, if you'll back up a page or two, you'll see what the Nikon thought it looked like.

The clown isn't too out of focus, I was actually trying for a pic of the Monty, and at the last second the clown swam under it, I thought it was a cool pic.

LOL, a oiece of junk that takes those kinds of pics before I read the manual

I got a fuji s7000, I like it better than the 995 so far, the image quality at 100% is pretty noisy, but can be fixed with some image editing, and heck, what do you expect from 12MP. I'll let you know later if I'm still happy after I print a couple of 8 X 10s, I think I will be, but we'll see. I almost went with the CP 5700...but the clam was what steered me away from the nikons, I got frustrated with blues....

You s*ck. LOL

I'm sooooo spoiled with my Nikon, I really need someone to talk me out of it. I'd like to get the 5700, but, like you, I get dissalusioned with the ultra-rare purple hippo tang.

Optical zoon?
Macro? (most important to me).

I have no need for more than 4+ mp. I know I won't be printing 8 x 10's on a regular basis. My 5 x 7's with a 3.4 mp are just fine. So, something else needs to attact me -- color rendition, opt. zoom .... ?

Love the pics ... but your pics are always awesome. Give VanGogh a crappy brush, he's still an artist. Give Joe Shmoe a Hasseblad, and he still takes Joe Shmoe pics. ;-)

the s7000 has a 6X optical zoom and a 3.2 digital (but who cares about that anyway), it has macro mode (which works with the zoom and can get to 10 cm, or super macro at full wide angle and can get as clase a 1 cm. It will shoot 12MP in RAW (I need a microdrive and a freeware RAW converter) 12MP Fine and 12MP normal. I've been shooting in 6 MP Normal this afternoon for the most part, the 12MP RAW images are 13MB per and I only get 20 on my 256 MB card, only 1 on the useless 16MB XD picture card provided by fuji. It will take both CF Type I and Type II as well as XD picture Cards and will use them both at the same time. Uses AA batteries (which I liked, NiMHs are easy to find, I got 3 sets) and I can use alkalines (found anywhere) in a pinch.

Lot's more features, those are just off the top of my head. BTW, if you can't get away from Nikon...I saw the CP 5700 at ButterFlyPhoto.com for 479.00 a couple days ago The s7000 was 499.00 and has a 100.00 rebate right now, that's the only way I could talk my wife into it. She come home this evcening and whined "It's heeeeeeaaaaavvvvvvyyyyy" and put it down, I said..."yeah, amybe you'll keep your paws off , There was something said about me and my God Foresaken expensive Hobbies, and then she walked out, LOL.

More pics in a minute, just need to upload them.

This one has a small frame, cause I hit the wrong button in PS and was too lazy to star all over.

Yeah, but he's taking Joe Schmoe pics w/a Hasselblad!
Trying to talk the GF into allowing a $2500 reef w/o a ring for her finger is tough. Trying to talk her into letting me spend 10K on a camera is unimaginable.
Kevin, the photo's look great, as does the tank. Just out of curiousity, what do you guys think of the Canon G5?
I've got a Canon film SLR, (Elan 7e) that I love, but its getting realy expensive to print all the time, now that I no longer have access to a darkroom...

I've not done any reasearch on the cannons, but I was reading something by gregr the photo mod at RC, that if he were choosing between the G2, G3 and the G5, he would go with the G3. Personally the movable LCD...I'd break it in about 15 seconds. It takes great pics, but has some noise issues, which I think everyone is finding with cams over about 4 MP, whith the exception of the DSLR cams.

My thing there is...will it show up on print and will it show up on a web image. So far the answer to my cam is no. I know it won't show up on a 5X7 and I'm fairly certain when the pixels are scrunched to 300 DPI, it ain't gonna show up on an 8X10 (Which is the largest my printer will do...I think). As for a web image...a 100% crop will show some noise at 12 MP and some also at 6 MP, but it is highly unlikely at that size I will ever crop beyond 50% (if that high) and it doesn't have the slightest bit of noise at those magnifications. For the money...it's the best bang for the buck.

Kev, great pics man.

Maxx, G3 all the way. The G5 has problems with chromatic aberration, which you really REALLY don't want in a camera for reef photos.

BTW, WHY would you not get a Canon DSLR if you already have EF lenses? Explain that one to me, LOL. I expect the Drebel will be dropping significantly in price by year end when the new 10D MKII comes out. Until then, there are plenty of disillusioned Drebel buyers who are selling out of frustration that it doesn't magically take the best pics in the world because it's a DSLR.

Sorry to hijack the thread there Kevin.... again, awesome pics and a gorgeous tank.
