Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

GSellers - Thanks for the reminder on the purple cap. I had no idea it has such a history (just looked it up). Oh, and by doing well, it has lots of growth at the edges (can't see the frag lines anymore) and part of it has actually grown down to the rock it is on, and started forming onto it - unfortunately, it's in a horrible place for trying to get a clear photo of it.

SeahorseBT and Octoman - Thanks for the kind words as always!

Me - I really need to get a refugium going. First I have to figure out how to increase the pass-through rate on the in tank overflow. Options include drilling and cutting, but I'm worried about small and/or sharp pieces of plastic in the tank and the damage it could do.

Hmmm... 20 Gallon tank, Mag 5, some plumbing parts, and a life-reef overflow and I should be all set.

I really need to build that frag shelf as well - I did manage to pick up some acrylic sheets yesterday - so I'm halfway there.

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

Back from vacation and all is well with the tank - mostly.

I bought an Automatic Top Off from AutoTopOff.com and it works PERFECTLY. It's a little rough on styling, but the thing just works. I had it set up in a few minutes and only have one complaint. Cord lengths should be LOOOONGER. Of course, I have the Sump unit on the back of my Solana, so that could be part of the problem.

I used an old MJ600 with some clear vinyl tubing and a 3 gallon bucket for a reservoir. I used a bucket clamp from my tank siphon to affix the hose to the rim of the tank. I'm very happy with the ATO, but can't seem to post a review correctly.

Now for the mostly part - I left the main light (150W HQI) OFF for three days. CRAP! However, everything seems to be ok. However, I can't find my little tiger goby. Then again, the silly little fish is: tiny, transparent (except for the stripes) and cryptic (only out at night). I'm sure I'll see him again some day, if my large pistol shrimp hasn't eaten him...

That's it for now. I've got to catch up on work!

Long Overdue Update

Well, some things were lost, and some things have going gangbusters - namely my montiporas.

I am having a problem with my pistol shrimp - he is HUGE (at least 3 inches, not including antennae) - and he steals anything that's not bolted down - ricordea, mushrooms, millepora, etc.

Plus I got my first acan!

Here's photos of where things stand for now.

First ACAN!

Green brain is getting bigger... bigger...bigger... (I need a new tank!)

Orange digi is going insane:
Today:

Compared to last July:

Orange Monti is also going crazy:

The Pink Nest:

And in the full tank shot you can see the latest birdsnest break-off's. Man these things are easy to break.

I'm sad that I lost the Millepora And I apparently can't keep ricordea or zoas...

Oops... If I could find the "edit post" button, I'd fix that shot.

Here it is:

Also added yesterday a bangaii cardinal and a beatiful tail spot blenny.
