Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

That is at least $1,000 cheaper than my vet.

I actually found someone who would do it for under $500, but he's not taking any more patients (according to his evil secretary - who actually has a reputation for being evil). Maybe I should wait for him in his parking lot...

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

I can't believe they charge that much!
Believe it or not, it is a simple surgery. I've done several myself on cats that came from animal rescue when my boss was too busy with other surgeries.
I would really look around and see what others are charging.

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

Back to fish!

Well fish tank stands anyway. I still need to make the doors, and a "hood" (open top and bottom). WARNING: These are about the worst pictures I've taken in years. No artistic merit whatsoever, but maybe having them hang out in my chronicle will get me off my duff for finishing the doors and hood.

Here's the whole thing (short lighting schedule with the new new light for another few days).

The doors will look similar to the side (shown below) and will slide left and right.

And because I didn't forget! Snail Eggs!

Oh yeah... it's intentionally way wider than the Solana. In fact, it's the perfect size for a 40 Breeder or a 58.

Man where did you get your snails from? A power plant?!
That is a very good sign of tank stability.

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

The snail eggs still look good, and the tank looks a whole lot better.

I've already posted the same pic twice of the full tank in two other threads, so here's one for me for the future - with just about everything labeled. Not labeled are the two pistol shrimp, the yellow watchman goby, the False Percula Clown, and Royal Gramma. I actually turned the light on to get the shot, which is why all the softies look angry and the fish aren't out.

Oh, my sand is a mix of black and white sand - the sand is actually pretty clean.

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

Quick Update:

1. Another fish went carpet surfing... A Yellow Watchman Goby. Poor dude was only in the tank a week or two. Now "his" pistol shrimp is without a goby.

2. It is time to build a fish fence. I am a "True Believer" in running topless with hot lights. But I can't keep sacrificing the poor fish who live in the tank. I will build a fence. It will work.

Observations:

Pistol Shrimp are MUCH LESS active when they don't have a goby buddy.

I think my Black Ocellaris is to blame for the fish jumpery. He/She/It has become more and more territorial in the last few months. He has bitten me AND my girlfriend. Was he hungry or angry? Who can tell.

P.S. Hamlet the Cat is now tailless. I'll see if I can dig up a before photo. I know how y'all* like your pics.

(* I'm originally from San Antonio, so I can use y'all without repercussion.)

The now half-tailed cat I rescued a couple months ago.

AND... my tank is even cleaner than it is shown above. My new CUC from Reefcleaners.org is still doing a great job!

Nice reef Dave
Sorry about your carpet surfing fish Clownfish are in the 'damsel' family and can become very territorial. Be careful putting a new fish in there with it.
Awwwww... very pretty kitty!

Re: DAHansen's 34G Solana

It's my Crazy Dave avatar...

Here's more pics from today!

The Hydnophora is doing very well.

The Montipora is also having fun. I need to build a lens box so I can get a pic from above. LOTS of new growth!

The Stylophora is loving life... as long as the limpet stays off of course.

The Bird's Nest is growing like a weed! 1st 2.5 weeks ago, then today.

And there is a new guy! A $10 frag of a blue acro. I've been wanting BLUE sps for a while. Now I only need a rose millepora and I can stop adding coral...

That's about triple the size it was a hair over a week ago. It WILL be big!
