Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

Nice. I see you got the glass lid. Hang onto that sucker, they're a royal pain to get separate if you lose it or break it.

My husband has had his 24 pod for a while now. It's the best lookin' tank out of our 5. Look into a hang on th eback fuge/skimmer combo, they're awesome. Get the name brand though, worth the construction.

Good luck and happy birthday!!

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

Can you give me a link or two to a hang on the back fuge/skimmer combo. I found some but not sure if I'm looking at the right thing or not.
-Thanks

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

I haven't updated my chronicle in a while but I have some new updates! I got all my test kits in ( I decided to start off with API kits), the powerhead, thermometer, 100w heater, and hydrometer. I also bought a stand for the tank!

I figured heat was going to be a little problem because I have the 150w MH light so I picked up a pretty decent fan that should hopefully get the job done!

I decided to go with a 400gph powerhead but will probably have to add another once I start adding sps to the tank. The 400 should do for now though.
I've been pretty busy doing lots and lots of research lately, the tank starts in just over a month. I can't wait!! But like everyone says..."take it slow" so I better get used to waiting lol

Pictures will be up tomorrow night Stay tuned!

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

we have the exact same setup. same MH too. I have a 1/4 inch piece of acrylic between the water and halide. My temp stays at 80 all year round without fans or anything. the only downside is you have to top off quite a bit. I do 2 gallons a week in mine. Ill see if i can find a picture of my tank.

things have changed alot since the move but Im keeping everything in there SPS LPS Softies Zoos everything :-) I cant wait to see your tank "wet"
A word of advice remove the blue sponge and reefballs.

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

Wow! Your tank is a great inspiration!! Did u modify the chambers at all? If so what did you do?

You were able to keep it at 80? Very nice, hopefully mine stays that way too...
Is that acrylic piece the one that came with the tank or did u purchase it separately?

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

I upgraded my lights after the fact and im glad you went MH right off the bat it opens up alot of possibilities. The only thing with the glass lid i see you have is if it makes contact all the way around the top of the tank there wont be as much evaporation which may in turn raise temperature. I did not mess with the chambers in the back but I have seen someone who drilled a whole near the middle and put a powerhead in teh back chamber that blew into the DT. I dont see the benefit in this. I just have my koralia nano on the right side and added the hydor rotating nozzle to one of the left side ports. I am seriously thinking of upgrading the back chamber return pump though to a maxijet but everything seems happy now so ill hold off until the 1 year cleaning. My tank has been up for 10 months now. Also happy Late B day im turning 20 aug 2 woot.

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

haha most were either eatin by the hermits or died off. now i think i only have 2 turbo snials and 3 dwarf blue leg hermits. I need to go buy more ASAP. but i would say

5 turbos snails
5 nassarius snails
10 ceriths shails
5 dwarf blue leg hermits
5 margarita snails

I would avoid the emerald or mythrax crabs. I had 2 that tore up my shrooms and zoes.
that should be a god CUC for ya. (please chime in people if you have any other suggestions)

I heard turbo's can get very annoying because they knock everything over. This is the list that I have going so far:
  • Astrea Snails
  • Cerith Snails
  • Scarlet Hermits
  • Nassasarious Snails

I have not decided how much of each so far. I guess I will have a better idea once my tank actually has something in it

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

So I am about to make another purchase. Since Drs. Foster and Smith have such a good deal on IO Reef Crystals I am going to order the 160 gallon mix. That should be plenty for a while since my tank is only a 24g

Re: My Aquapod: 24g's and an MH System

Ok I just order IO salt. I took everyone's advice and did not go with reef crystals (discussed in my other thread Instant Ocean Salt vs. IO Reef Crystals ). I bought the 160 gallon mix, so with me having a 24g tank this should last for a little bit . Once the mix runs out I will take it from there to see if I should get Reef Crystals or stick with IO salt.

Mitch, the small water volume will be a bit if a challenge, but with the way your entering this hobby I think you'll have a success.
