Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, this is what i used when i built my 120. I doubt there is a difference between silicones for aquariums. I just wanted to use what the pro's use. It actually cost the same as dap.
Here's the link, I just want to see you successful.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

heres the story:

with the last tank, I used the CRL, waited 48 hours and filled it up, half way full the epoxy released the silicone!!!!! water everywhere!!!!

Called the LFS and told them, of course they said "plywood thank??? waht the...." another LFS told me to use GE I, and back then GARF recommended GE I, now they have changed it to "aquarium safe silicone" any ways, GE I work like a champ and has lasted 5 years now (tank that crashed, still in use)

I have used the CRL to make smaller all glass tank but I dont think it like to attach to Epoxy at all.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok. I was not trying to get you to use CRL but to wait for a longer cure time. I built my 120 completely and it is 100%. Good to know though you had issues with it on epoxy. It's cool. I hope everything go's smooth and you have years to grow corals to frag out to me

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will give it longer curing time. I'm putting something like 3 tubes in the front panel only!! so 7 days sounds reasonable. Plus I need time to psyche myslef up and get ready for the worst case senario!

thanks Frankie

Thanks guys, I cant wait either, I'm looking at the wall visualizing it in there with my Naso swimming around. Right now all he can do is dash back and forth, he can barely even turn around.

Great work! I have a plywood sump but it's no way near the size of your project.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, It's still holding water & solid . Got to be at least 5 years now. The screws are starting to show & the paint is starting to come off the top braces just a bit. I didn't cover these areas as well as should have. Like I said much smaller scale than your box but with your attention shown it should turn out fine!

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan on getting 2 more coats on it while the silicone cures. the front panel wont be getting another coat but it will be getting TONS of silicone.

this epoxy is amazing stuff. I let the left over dry in the roller pan and the dry product is like tire rubber!

I decided to use my 2 Iwaki 30's for now and upgrade my skimmer pump instead with a Iwaki 70rlt.
Eventually I will upgrade the return pump but it will be months before I build my sps colection and I dont think a few softies care too much about return rate or anything else for that matter.
Judging by how they survived the crash, I think they would live in a bucket if they had to
