Did you screw the plywood together? What kind of screws did you use, if so?

Did you run them in with silicone or are you just going to seal the heads with the epoxy?

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tempered all the way. Forget about Starphire for this run imo. It's way more money and weaker. They don't call it low iron content glass for nothing I don't even think they can temper Starphire. Starphire is just a brand name for low iron glass.
I have seen many ply wood tanks. The best ones i have seen are 2x4 framed and braced to the hilt. And those seep also. There is not much salt water cannot destroy. Go to a boat yard and inspect a few old boats. You might even get some better ideas and consider fiber glass. It will last a bit longer that is for sure. Hate to bash this early on but everyones rooting you on without thinking of your safety. You understand how much pressure and weight 300 gallons is i hope. This is not something i would build hammered either. Alcohol will impair your skills i don't care what anyone says.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its 0.33 pounds of pressure per square inch.

when I decided to replace the top braces on my 100g ply tank, I took them off, tank did not bow at all so I left it for maybe 2 hours, came back, mesured, no bow not even 1/6" sice then I have trust in plywood

Frankie, are you saying no beer while working on this? thats it, project canceled

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

question for overflow experts:

6" coast to coast, or just two corner boxes? corner boxes would add strength to the joints.

tempered glass it is

Thanks

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are doing all this woodwork/epoxy, why not make an external coast to coast and therefore use no real estate inside the tank?

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this is going to be your real dream show piece, I would recommend 3/4" starfire low iron glass as the extra thickness will compensate for the lower strength and the additional clarity, because you only have one viewing panel, will be well worth the extra cost IMO. I double checked this with Jack this morning.

Good luck, lot's of cool work ahead.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the input Craig, hes checking on Starfire prices but I was told it will be well above Tempered prices. I'm on a budget here and I dont really have a problem with the green tint
