just 1/3 up, or 1/3 down from the top? tank is 24" tall, you think I should make the rock pile 8-12" tall? that would be great so I dont have to go in the backyard looking for rocks

Are you going to be drilling the rock and connecting with PVC or using and type of putty to hold it together?

Also, are you just going to move everything from the current tank into the new one or start over and do a whole new cycle?

Thats such a sweet living room view!

you can replace the bulbs, just standard stuff. the stock bulbs I am told, are crap and the actinics are just regular double tube stick type. my old light is 6 months old and the bulbs are still good. before my tank crashed the sps were grown super fast under these bulbs.

I am using everything from old tank. Might have to buy 70 or so pounds of base rock but everything else is from the old tank. which by the way recovered nicely from the crash after week or so the survivors were all back to normal.

this is where I bought the lights: eBay - Women's Clothing, Inside the Home, DVD, HD DVD Blu-ray items on eBay.com

but again, buy at your own risk, there is some negative reviews on these fixtures. I contacted a zillion people and asked about them, all said they were happy with them and I have not had any issues so far.

1/3rd up...so I'd go exactly 8-12". Like I said though, you should vary the height in each little island to add dimension. Like have it "step up" to the 12" so it doesn't look as man-formed. You just don't want the aquascape to look so intentional.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Major major stupid mistake!!!!

Day 1 building the tank I accidentally drilled the hole on the side panel. figured I'll just patch it with a short fat screw fro the inside, no big deal but I FORGOT TO DO THAT!!!! just painted over it and never saw it now there's dampness around the hole!!!!!!

I did the very same thing with the old tank the patch is holding great.

Just emptied the tank, dried it, patched it, and waiting for the paint to dry. water goes back in midday Sunday

Nice catch before you had 300 gallons of water where you didn't want it!
