Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

I put like 30 3" screws in those 2x6's.

I dont have a cinder block foundation....its something different. theres a long side walk looking concrete structure in the middle of the crawlspace, runs the length of the house and all the vertical supports are on that

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have drilled it and put in some lags with fender washers and nylon insert lock nuts. 1/2" bolts for 2x6's. Don't know what kind of screws you used, but if those 2x6's tilt on the verticle, those screws won't hold. The bolts will keep it from doing that.

Post some pic's.

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

You ran the 4X4 clear up to where it touches the floor joist.. correct? If you did, the screws, how many, and where you put them in the 2X6's will not matter. Once water is in the tank, the 4X4's will be pinned by the weight of the full tank, and wont go anywhere. I have a basement under my tank, and my floor joists run the same direction as yours. I made a big Tee out of 4X4's, cut it 1/2" LONGER than from the joist to the floor, and beat that sucker in with a hammer. Once the tank was full, there is NO moving it.. I can kick it,... run a car into it.. whatever.. Son't sweat the wood screws. Once water is in the tank, it wont matter if it is even fastened to the floor joist. All the force is going to be straight down.. no side forces.. it wont move, unless your concrete settles. in which case, it will move down... due to the downforce of your tank.. and if this happens,.. your screws would not have helped anyways. Man, my hat is off to you... Your tank is looking great.. I have heard of several people talk about building a ply tank but never followed through.. You did. Congrats!

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Varg, hats off to ya. It is looking fantastic, you are indeed a finisher, a good one at that. I just caught up and wish I had of been in on the pump discussion but I will let you know my two cents anyway. I'm with the reeflo crowd, we are a distributor of their pumps, and the Manta Ray (Jack mentioned it) is where I would go. Again, this is just a killer thread, and I can't wait till you get this in the wall and fishes swimming. Great carpentry from what I've seen Varg.

Looks good. I completely agree with Jason. Those 2x6's aren't going anywhere. Great job Varga

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for your support. I think we are OK floor wise. total cost $33
now the big question.......Do I need a dedicated circuit? this is what I have now:

the fish room, one hallway, and half of the living room are on one double 20A circuit. my existing tank never had any issues until I plugged in a 1500W space heater which made the fuse pop.

the new tank will have two iwaki 30's, will add a refloo in a few months as it grows. 4x250w HQI. 4x96 o3's, 2x39 o3's and 500w heaters, a few Koralia 4s, and a few small fans on the sump.

I'm pretty sure I can just plug that into the wall but what do you guys think?

Thank you as always

Re: Varga's 300 Gallon In-Wall Build!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is best to have a dedicated circuit on a system that large makes things easy
