| Watch this Ma! | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole Of ALL of the things that builders can cheat on in order to make more money, why do they choose electric? My house was the same way, 14 guage wire on a 20 amp breaker. I went through the house with the home inspector before I bought this place and we both saw it as soon as we pulled off the panel covers. It almost became a deal breaker, but the sellers agreed to give back $2000 to have everything rewired the way it's supposed to be. Congrats on the skimmer! (how about those Pens??? geez, I'm tired this morning. Freakin game wasn't over until 12:50...)

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole It's going to be interesting to watch the game on Wednesday night and see if the young legs of the Pens are more refreshed then the tired, old legs of the Wings. I'm thinking game seven will be required to settle this. But yeah, I think the Wings are going to win another cup.

| Golden Moray | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole sorry to hear about the electrical set back Brooks. how long have you been in the house? is there a time limitation on when you can go after the previous home owners? would it be worth you go after the home inspector who inspected when you purchased the house?

| Cabbage Leather | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole we bought the house in Jan of 08 and had it inspected but, he must not of looked under the drop ceiling in the basement. I have 6 standard receptacle box's within 10 feet of each other. Each have a min of 5 lines going into it and are wire nutted together. Its just a wiring mess and my friend that is a contractor says its not even close to code. I have a electrician coming tonight to see what he says. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole The use of wire nuts is permitted, according to "the code". (sounds like a secret...) Where do the 5 lines go? What are they powering? It very well could be fine as long as the amps used doesn't exceed the wires capacity.

| Cabbage Leather | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole yep wire nuts are ok but, their can only be 3 hot lines per box... I have a min of 5. I have no idea where they all go. some are ran under the cross members some are not. also wire nuts are code but, you have to have access to them. so if I want to drywall the ceiling I would need 6 blank covers for the box's in the ceiling. also have another 220 100 amp line that runs down outside then inside and then back outside to the hot tub. I may just say screw it and take that line and run a new sub panel for the basement. Dont' use the tub anyway |

| Cabbage Leather | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole well the second opinion was the same. all wiring needs to be replaced and redone. so I am going to pull the line from the hot tub since its not used and run a 60 amp sub panel for the living area and a 40 amp sub behind the tank. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Brooks93 210 gal of money hole *gasp* You mean I'm supposed to get permits and inspections done when I run new wiring??? ![]() Actually, this reminds me of a REALLY funny story! We got a building permit when we had our swimming pool put in. As a quick means of getting power to the pump/filter temporarily, I just ran a heavy duty, outdoor extension cord and plugged it in. Wouldn't you know that the county inspector showed up that day. He wrote me up for not having a gate on the deck and never said a word about the extension cord, strung out across the yard. ![]()
