The Naper Chronicle

Ive decided to put all my chronicle's into just one thread so I can keep up to date with all the different projects I have going on.

The first reef since I moved back home to Pittsburgh, PA
(I was into this hobby about 10 years ago) But its been a while...

My 65 Gallon reef system:

And a shot of the filter system on it... (I know... Bio Balls)

Re: The Naper Chronicle

My 65 Reef has been running for about 7 or 8 months now.

I've had some issues I needed to over come. The biggest mistake I made was to use the silicon with the mold resistant crap in it... (BAD STUFF!!!)

But I was lucky to overcome that with no loss of life.

Here is a pic rundown of some of the corals living in the 65:

My Hammer Coral

A rock with some Red Mushrooms taking over

My Leather Coral

This Pulsing Xenia just showed up on this rock

Some plain looking Zoo's

Re: The Naper Chronicle

Months ago I picked up an old 330 gallon lobster tank for $100 bucks.

I figured this would be a fun project to play with...

When I picked up this monster it kinda looked like crap, and was a bit@h getting into my house and then into my workshop where it now lives...

Here is a flash back on what the system looked like at the start:

I call it Phase One

My Daughter... always on the darn phone...standing next to the 300

Just an inside shot

Another inside the dirty tank... Boring huh?

And the ugly ass stand...

But come on... for $100 bucks I just couldn't resist the endless possibilities....

Re: The Naper Chronicle

Stage Two on the 300...

At this point I realized that this "fun" project may cost me a few bucks... But I'm still pluging along having fun with it.

Experimenting with plumbing, filtration, etc... And shopping around for sand and rock and what ever else my brain conjures up...

Can you say (Reef addiction?)

Well I got the basic plumbing down for what I want to do with this monster...

Yeah yeah

Water test, had a few leaks to fix...

So weeks go by and everything is looking good, now i'm getting rock, sand, thinking about lighting etc...

I come home from work to see (drip, drip, drip) comming from the corner of the tank!

Long story short... I drained the water, stored it all in buckets, and tanks, and what ever vessle I could find in the house not to waist all the good saltwater I made...

I sealed the inside very well, and fixed the problem... So its all good now...

Again, for $100 bucks, I kinda expected a few challenges along the way...

But this is what I am enjoying the most I guess so far...

Re: The Naper Chronicle

Nice Napa Ive been wondering what you were gonna do with that monster of a tank. It looks good. How deep is the water in that bad boy? What did you do for lighting? What is the overall plan for it? Lots of open area for big fish!

Re: The Naper Chronicle

It's GREAT to see that monster filled. That's going to be a VERY cool tank. LOTS of swimming room and a HUGE horizontal area for aquascaping and corals.

Re: The Naper Chronicle

If I remember its 30 inches deep.
I have 2 large 400 watt MH with 12000 and 14000 bulbs, and T5 on the sides of that.

I'm happy with the lighting right now, may add a little more down the road, not sure yet...

I don't have a definate plan as of yet with the outcome, so I'm not sure yet...

But I will keep everyone posted as things progress.

The 2000 pounds of rock I got really filled the tank so far, and that is only half the rock.

I may have to start up a few more tanks...lol

I'm working on a 45 right now.
