Re: 55 and 40g DT 135g system

Its funny, I flicked the masquito and a few minutes later I saw it flying around again...maybe there is more than one?

Anyway, the water has cleared up now. I ordered 21 plants, not sure if there is more or not. Didnt really count them.

Re: 55 and 40g DT 135g system

Mangroves need to have their leaves above water, they will die if totally submerged.

Also be sure to wipe or spray the leaves daily to remove any salt. Salt on the leaves will smother the plant.

Yeah, I know. I need to pile the sand up a little more on one one side of the tank. If they do not have leaves, can it be submerged?

Re: 55 and 40g DT 135g system

All the ones I have seen have had the tips out of water regardless of if they have leaves or not. You can attach a piece of styrofoam to the top so they float above the water line until they grow enough to reach the bottom.

Re: 55 and 40g DT 135g system

dont quote me but i'm pretty sure there was a thread showing how mangroves thrive submerged as much as when the leaves were out of water. I know BigAl was subscribed to it, probably tbittner as well, check with them. because it was saying how mangroves could be in the DT since they can be submerged
