| Tubeworm | DrunkenSunday's 90g Reef I have enjoyed following all the other reef chronicles, so I decided to start my own. Here goes... 3/2/08 The tank is a 2 year old All Glass Aquarium with no overflows. The stand, I made. Today I put the sand in and mixed the salt water, using tap water beacause I don't have a R/O yet. I did use Prime to treat the water to help. The sand I used was sugar fine and I put 125 pounds in. I bought 35 pounds of cured live rock (looks dead to me) from my local fish store. That was also put in today. I added an old 300 watt heater I had laying around. And bought and added a Seaclone 150 protien skimmer. Piece of junk, I know, but it was cheap, so it will be used for now. I added an old cascade canister filter that is just running carbon for the moment. The light is a 260 watt coralife compact flourecent with 2 10,000k bulbs and 2 actinic bulbs. This light is also temporary, I have a 760 watt metal halide light being delivered soon. I had some coral skeleton laying around, so I broke that up and put it in the tank for rubble (jawfish) purposes. I put 2 bio wheels from an established tank in to help on the cycle speed. I took about a table spoon of krill and put it in the tank to create ammonia. My reading at the end of day one are: Temp: 76 Salinity: 1.022 Ph: 8.4 Alkalinity: 0-1.6 ? Amonia: .25 Nitrite: .05 Nitrate: 0 Here are a few shots of the stand I built ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are some full tank shots and close up shots. As you can see the sand is still settling ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And here is a shot of the protien skimmer full of foam ![]() |

| Tubeworm | Re: DrunkenSunday's 90g Reef 3/3/08 So, the cycle is moving along rather quickly. Probably due to me using the bio wheels and pre cured live rock. I have lost probably 2 or 3 gallons of water due to evaporation and the skimmer, but I'm going to let it go for today. Also no water changes done yet. Here are tonights readings: Temp: 76 (a little cool) Salinity: 1.022 (need to bring up a little) PH: 8.4 ( right on track) Alkalinity: 1.7 - 2.8 (yesterdays readings were faulty. Didn't do test right) Amonia: 0 (wow, already) Nitrite: .05 ( a little concerning) Nitrate: 5.0 (good sign) Here are some tank shots. Notice all clear now that the sand has settled. Only thing is, my rocks seem more white than they really are due to sand settleing on them. I'm guessing once I add some power heads it should be ok. Just hope it doesn't kill the alage growing on them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: DrunkenSunday's 90g Reef Looks like you are off to a good start. Never fear you will soon have many colors in your white tank. First comes brown, then green and red, and eventually purple. A few others will show up as well. Take your time and your reef will return the favor by turning out beautifully.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: DrunkenSunday's 90g Reef That really is nice sand. Have you tested your water yet? It would be interesting to know what your alk, calc, and other tests are at. The makeup of the sand can affect the readings.

I do not have a test for calcium yet. I am the most satisfied with my PH, it seems to be nice and high and stable. Last edited by DrunkenSunday : 03-04-2008 at 09:51 AM. | |
