Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Here is the reconfigured sump/fuge.

New pipe configuration entering the skimmer tub and the fuge tub:

Top pipe is from the predator tank, lower pipe is from the reef. The "T" at the bottom is where the 450 will connect to the skimmer/fuge/sump setup:

The two 1" pipes coming from the reef and entering a 2" baffle heading over to the sump:

SCOTT!!! I got a wild hair yesterday and decided I've had enough of the slow leak. I WISH I would have done it Saturday when you were here. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!

Seriously, I really, really, really needed help doing this and I'm so sore today it's not funny.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Thanks JoJo. It's actually a HUGE relief to have it done because it needed to be done in order to hook the 450 into it. The 35g sat too high for a gravity drain into the sump/fuge from the 450. I wasn't about to go through what I went through with the 150 predator tank, trying to get two pumps to equal out.

Hey Kids...can you say "salt creep!"? Ha Ha, way cool Terry! Your sumps are really FULL, where does the water go when the pumps go off and the tank drains down a little?

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

On the other side of the black tubs is a 100g sump.

It has about 50g available to catch the drain off when the pumps are off.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Most of the "salt" that you see is from the mess I made in replacing the fuge tub, the one on the left. That's actually a brand new tub. I thought I had a leak around a seam or a bulkhead. Turns out I had leaky connection in one of my pipes running down to this setup.

I removed all the rock from the old fuge tub and moved it into the skimmer tub temporarily. Then I pulled out the old tub, put the new one in it's place, and transferred all the sand over to it. Therefore, more mess, especially on the new tub.

I was trying to minimize the time out of water for everything that was in the old fuge tub.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

It's nothing special and it's pretty much exactly the configuration that lots of other folks use, just on a bigger scale. I really like it because I can easily get to everything.

I still need to hook back up the chiller, b-ionic doser, and the water change pump. Those are all easily done though. I was just exhausted last night so I went the lazy route.
