Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Thanks!

I finished the plumbing so tomorrow night I'll pump some saltwater into the tank, slowly, and leak test it. Hopefully, there won't be any leaks on the drain side. Then, depending on if 40g is enough to test the CL, I'll plug in the pump and check the whole system. If I get that far, I'll try to video tape the flow so you can see what I see.

Plumbing's done? Wish I could say the same thing. Good luck testing, I'm sure everything will be fine.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Nikki, I'll post some pics tonight of the plumbing. It was a LOT of pieces and parts to get it put together. Confidence is HIGH that everything will work though.

Sarah.....

aHA!!! I didn't think you added the sand yet and got it crystal clear THAT quickly. And since you purposely didn't tell us that bit of important information, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your arm pits for a week!!!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

LMAO!!!

Well, the tank DOES IN FACT hold water.

HUGE sigh of relief since this is the first time that I've seen it WITH water in it.

As I suspected though, 43g isn't enough to run the CL with. I have another barrel mixing now so later tonight I'll pump it into the tank and that should be enough to run the CL. I'll sweet talk Patti into helping me figure out how to video tape it so you can see the flow. It looked pretty good for a few seconds until the pump started sucking air.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

It's really funny, Kathy, to watch everyones face when they walked downstairs to help lift it. It was SHOCK! I've been walking by it and around it for WEEKS now so I guess I got used to it.

It is funny though, looking at it now, and I had just pumped about 43g of water into it and it has about 3" in it. Well, 3" down, 33" to go.

I stopped at the LFS on the way home and bought three turbo snail and ten burgendy leg hermits and added them to the 55 where I'm cycling 150 lbs of rock. The hair algae was starting to grow out of the tank. Although, today it looks like it's died off a bit.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

100 gallons are not going to prove it is leak free Terry. You need to fill that puppy up all the way and let it sit for a week and watch for seam seeping. I would just fill her up with the well water. You can siphon it out after.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Yeah Frankie, hind sight and all that. After reading your post I realized that I could have plugged the holes, since I have the bulkheads installed, and filled it up with well water. The reason I didn't was because I didn't know how to get the water out of the CL plumbing, which holds around 20g. I didn't want that much non-ro/di water in the system. Geez, I must be tired because I keep missing obvious things.

That and by filling it slowly, it's actually giving the new center brace another two or three days to cure before I get it even half way full.
