Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Hey all -thanks for the welcomes - I will keep you all posted on my POV about this project. Guys all I can tell you about your GF's involvement - I am thrilled that this is getting our basement cleaned out/up and getting the carpet out of there etc. I love doing home improvment projects - so this part of it is fun for me - yes I love tearing down walls etc. As far as the reef/fish part of this - that I am not so good with - I am more into building the tank/stand and asethics of the room! Here's an idea - go buy your GF's a birdy to two or dog or whatever she is into and then you two together can get into that pet as well as the reef/fish stuff too! Just an idea - it worked for us - I have birdies to play with and beautiful fishes to watch and learn about and a major plus - if you have kids - it is an entire science project and they learn so much - but hey they don't even realize that they are learning - it's just fun! I will stay in touch in this thread - it's really gonna be cool and I can't wait to see how it turns out!! Thanks for your interest and knowledge!

I have often thought about painting the wall around my tank black but chicken out, lol Anyway

Good Luck... Im sure Scott will be tons of help... Take alot of pictures.
HHHHHhhhhmmmmm.... intriguing!!!

Hi Patti!!! These tanks are going to be cool!! It's funny, I'm the one who got into the tanks and Mike (hubby) is all over the where, how it fits and what color and all!!

Oh and hey -- I'm sending Mike over for that "get the GF a dog" idea -- I'm trying to talk him into a dog again and he's not on board so far. I'm trying the subtle nag/"it's for security" tactic right now!!

Sounds like you and Mike make a great team! Good luck with the doggy.

Well, I finished the floor all the way to the wall. Tonight we'll move the stand into place. Assuming I don't collapse first.

Take him to a pet shop on "adoption day" if you have those. Pretend like you need something for your tank and then act like it was just chance when he falls in love with a little homeless puppy...

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Yeah, shame on me for not checking over for everything I needed before running to town. We sat the base in it's location and leveled it. The one side needed to be lifted a little bit. We flipped it up on edge and it was missing a leveling bolt. Off to town I go. I thought I was being smart by buying TWO!

Ok, we got the base leveled. THEN we looked at it some more and the 4x4 legs actually slide through the base and sit on the floor. The legs ALSO have leveling bolts. They were ALL missing. So if I would have bought TEN when I was in town, we would have been set. Oh well, I'm done for the night...

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Blue-eyes - don't let black scare you - we have an entire two rooms which are totally black - including ceilings!! It is for the theater and pool/ping-pong table rooms really all one big room. I was a little nervous when we started it - then I hurt my back and poor Terry had to finish it all by himself. It turned out GREAT - nothing to fear at all! If I thought it wouldn't be "overkill" I would consider painting the "tank room" black as well - I can imagine sitting back with very low lights - watching the beautiful fishes live their peaceful lives - so relaxing....hmmmmmm....oh honey - re-think on the wall color!!! LOL

Kathy - good luck - I wish I had words of wisdom or thoughts that could help you! Well maybe I do but I had better PM you those secrets~~~ LOL! Mike sounds like a great guy - who btw should get a dog - they are great security monitors (unless it is Goldie - who runs & hides at the slightest noise sound or feather falling)!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Thanks Patti!!!

So this whole black thing... matte or satin or what? I think I like the blue backgrounds on tanks though. I have a poster of the ocean and a bit of an island as teh background on my tank and I like it... can't see much except striated blue through the rock though. Think it could work with blue on the wall behind the tank? hmmm maybe I could go blue in the tank room altogether...

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

hey Kathy - blue would work too - just maybe a darker shade of blue - I don't think you want to draw attention away from the tank. We used a flat black - due to the TV projector - the reflection would bounce off of everything and we didn't want that to happen. If I were going to paint the tank room I would more than likely use a egg shell or satin finish easier to wipe down and clean but I would go with the black. Just think about it...hmmm. could be really neat!!
