Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

My dad is one of those people who can do any of these things and do them right. I must of learned something from helping him for all those years.

Patti is already talking about changing the color of the room. Something more of a tan to make the aquarium stand stand out more. I don't know much about color schemes so I leave that completely up to her.

One thing worth mentioning. I know the stand will hold the aquarium because the previous owner had this tank sitting on it and he had a reef. But on the bottom of the stand are installed self leveling feet. I was shocked! I had no idea that they could hold that amount of weight. Obviously the builder of the stand knew what he was doing though and they DO hold that amount of weight. I'll get pictures of the bottom of the stand tomorrow evening when we move it into place.

ooooooooooo I likey!!!! No offense to Billy but I think I like the dimensions of this one better. Nice and long along a wall instead of sticking out of a wall alot.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

I agree, Kathy. I really like the 10 feet of length. I think it gives a lot more room to build a reef. I also think that bigger fish will be happy in it. At least, I hope.

I know, I know, one thing at a time... But we are going to get another tank that will be 96x24x36 to match this one and bring it off in an "L" from the corner of this one to house our predators. That's the plan anyway.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Don't get ahead of yourself. You know A. Calfo and R. Fenner say that you should have all your inverts, including corals, established before introducing any fish at all! Man, how hard would that be?!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

No kidding! I didn't know corals too!

It wouldn't be too hard for me to do that actually. I received my spare Barracuda pump today so I could keep the 120g active for a while after moving all the live rock, including corals and as many inverts as I can catch, into the 450. I would just move the rocks that have corals attached to them which would mainly be the top layer.

Greg, define "established," which in Terry's case is an upgrade... a day or so in the new lights, right?

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Wow this "tank" has taken on a life of it's own! Well as T mentioned earlier in this thread - yes he did turn around and find me throwing a hammer thru the wall! I love this stuff - especially when it will look much better when it's all in place and finished! I have to keep on reminding my dear sweet hubby that this is an evolutionary project - won't be done very quickly at all!
Scott - let me know if your wife will coming with you on Sat. - I will try to plan to be here! I know that Terry will look forward to some help from someone who actually has a clue as to what he is talking about - about all I can do is smile pretty and nod my head in agreement with most things he tries to bounce off of me!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Very Nice Terry.. I cant waite to follow your progress... You mentioned about painting. I thought of a tank of the month i saw on another forum (cant remember where) but the wall behind the tank was black and the rest of the room was a white or off white , It was sooooo amazing. I have often thought about painting the wall around my tank black but chicken out, lol Anyway

Good Luck... Im sure Scott will be tons of help... Take alot of pictures.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

That DOES sound like it would look really nice. I'll let Patti decide all that though.

I ordered 150 lbs of the Tonga Nuku Fusion from Dr. Mac. I'll put it into my 55 for curing. Hopefully, by the time I get the 450 full of water, this rock will be cured.
