Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

I like that too and I think it would run a lot quieter too. I have a heck of a time getting the overflow box quiet. It is fairly quiet but NO noise would be better.

So would 5 holes of 3/4" spread the flow out good enough for the CL? I have a Hammerhead that I'll be using for the CL. I figured it will be forcing around 5000 gph through these holes. Maybe I'll put a locline Wye on the inside and then attach two nozzles to each of these holes. That would cut down on the force of the water and spread it around more.

Same for the returns from the sump, which is a Barracuda and I'll have to tone it back a little bit to equal the 2400 gph drain.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Cracker, I don't have any idea how they had it plumbed before.

But I agree that with this amount of holes, I should be able to figure out a good way of plumbing it up. And the quieter, the better.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Have you thought about using one of these hooked into the CL for some serious alternate flow. I have in mind to get one for my build. Maybe not the 8-way, but probably a 4-way. You just have a lot of holes to do something with.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

I've thought about it, Greg, but I wonder if this tank is too long for those to be effective. 120" would require a pretty good force to generate any kind of waves in it. But I've been wrong soo many times already.....

I'm also considering calling OceanMotions and sending them this pic and see what they can come up with.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

I can give a to the coast to coast overflow. I'm lost as to what the "CL" is??
The coast to coast is really quiet once you've got the water level set and flow adjusted.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Are the in & output fittings on the Ocean Motions slip or threaded?
I'd call them as well! For the price, they should offer expert advice on an install!
Ok , OK I'm just pissed that I can't afford one LOL

Well, it seems like my water changes get done because I'm messing around with the plumbing. Patti ain't NONE to happy when she sees me with the can of PVC cement and a hack saw blade. She even turns a very pretty shade of red when I run upstairs and say "Quick! Where are the BIG TOWELS!"

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

On another note, I have 150 lbs of the Tonga Nuku Fusion from PEA cycling in my 55g and I threw in a deli shrimp 5 days ago. It's completely gone. I'm going to have to keep a close eye on that tank because I suspect that something ate it.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

That's what I'm afraid of and I'd MUCH rather get rid of them now because it would be a nightmare to rid of them once they're in the 450.

hmmmm......

Maybe I'll put the rock in the predator tank for a few weeks before it goes into the 450....

Yeah, those guys make short work of just about anything that goes into that tank that's alive. Including my fingers if I'm not careful.

Terry,

Did I miss this, are the red dots the return or the supply for the sump?
