Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Thanks Al and Matt.

Gin, it wasn't THAT bad.

(sure, I can say that now that it's all the way up, running, and has beautiful life in it )

Brooks, the lights aren't exactly on the same time schedule, they're different by about a minute. Cloud cover is emulated on the individual lights timer. And it also could be that most of the rock on the right is the new rock and doesn't have any coraline growing on it yet, so it looks more bleached and looks brighter. The left side has most of the rock from the 120g.

thats funny you say that because I was thinking about doing 3 24" I4's and doing the same thing. rolling cloud cover and sunset and sun rise would be cool. Still may do that but, I just want to get it up and cycling first

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

is there a controller that would let you create those setting with a T-5 or PC lighting.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

that would be interesting if you could attach a power controller to "dim" the lights or prevent as much intensity from the bulb. I imagine this would effect the life of the bulb. interested otherwise.

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Coralvue DOES have dimmable ballasts for MH now. I'd be surprised if you couldn't dim T5's too. The dimmable MH ballasts that I was looking at take a 0-10v DC circuit to control the brightness of the ballast. I didn't look for dimmable T5 ballasts (I don't think they're even called ballasts, that shows how much I know about T5 )

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

I also failed to mention that the coralvue dimmable ballasts can also be controlled by an AquaController. I don't know if you need to update the software in the controller or not though.

The only con is the money they cost... and maybe the difficulty of setting them up for non-techys like me. Once you get it done though they are a lifesaver!

Your tank is beautiful Bittners! I like the two rock island scaping a lot and it gives me ideas for my build. Thanks!

Re: Terry's 450g upgrade

Thanks Greg. I have no doubt that yours will look even nicer! Especially once you get past your size envy.

Our 360g predator tank will be in the area on Saturday, June 14th. I ran to Lowes last night and bought a bunch of lumber to build the frame for the stand and the top at least. Our neighbor has a truck and a trailer and he said he'd be happy to drive down with me to meet the truck, help load it, and bring it home.
