| Acropora | Re: The 180gal Family Project Thanks, Craig. I think she's gorgeous too! Ok, pictures...the guy was kinda weird and pronounced a lot of things incorrectly (which is a pet peeve of mine so it was hard for me not to correct him) but we got 106 lbs of live rock with about 20 snails and a peppermint shrimp. He's moving so he gave us some left over phosphate, kH and calcium testing kits along with some calcium hydroxide and kalkwasser and cheto that's full of copepods. The live rock looks pretty cool but I'm not going to take the pieces out to take pictures of them, you'll have to wait for my aquascape! He does have some macroalgae growing on one rock...anyone know how to get rid of it? ![]() ![]() |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: The 180gal Family Project That looks like Calurpa. If you put it into your DT, the fish that go in will eat it. In the mean time, it will help eliminate nitrates as it cycles. I think I would leave it alone and let nature take care of it.

| Acropora | Re: The 180gal Family Project Thanks...it feels nice for someone to think that I'm doing a good job...YAY! Update on the tank...Mark is coming by today when Tommy gets home from work to drill the tank...FINALLY! We got some more silicone to reseal everything in the sump and I just realized that it's black...Great!!! Instead of wasting gas by driving an hour, one way, to exchange it, I'm just going to use it to reseal what I can reach. It won't look consistant, but I'll have to put my OCD aside and deal with it the best I can. In the meantime, the live rock is curing (I know that it's already cured but we don't have a tank to put it in until we get this one set up...hopefully this will keep it cured and we won't have to go through a super big cycle) in a 55 gal Rubbermaid trashcan with a wavemaker, a protein skimmer and a heater on our front porch. I put some of the cheto we got in an extra HOB overflow box and hung it in (backwards) the 47 in Olivia's room. Copepods are swimming out like crazy, it's really exciting. Major, the coral banded shrimp, is tormenting the peppermint shrimp that we had to put in that tank. I feel really sorry for it. Hopefully plumbing will start this weekend and we'll move everything into the living room Sunday. Then on to aquascaping and I'll have to re-configure the facod to make it work for our set-up, the on the stripping and staining. Lots and lots to do. I can't wait...It's going to be so much fun! |
