Yeah, 2 - 3 years.... And then you get to have a lot of fun... Playing games... Watching her enthusiasm in learning...

.........

And then she'll become a teenager...

Just 2-3 years? Wow. I thought it would be a LOT longer.

She'll still dominate it, but you won't be as exhausted! She may be starting to get some teeth you know... that can wake them up very unhappy.

I'll have to check. She seems to be chewing on her fingers more than sucking on them now. She just hasn't grasped the concept of "grasping" yet. She knows she can hit and kick things, but she doesn't get grabbing something. Besides that, she refuses to take a pacifier so getting her to take a teething ring will be interesting.

As far as tank news goes, it's raining so I can't work on the DT today. It's pushed to the front of our garage because of our pool table and I have to stand half in and half out to work on it. So I'll be working on the sump today.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Wow sounds like a fun project. I love that it is a family project. Once you get the tank up and running I am sure Olivia will love to watch it.
One thing you do want to look at is that ac vent that is right next to where the tank is going. We have one of ours the same way and it has rusted out due to the salt or the water I am not sure which. When we replace it we are going to try painting something waterproof on it to see if that helps.
Meanwhile enjoy your project and your baby. I can't imagine starting a reef with a baby in the house. You must be super busy.

I think the rain is a good thing. Try to rest while Olivia is resting, even if you don't sleep. I know how exhausted you're feeling. The tank will wait. You're still recuperating yourself, please rest.

Yeah, I'm a little busy especially with Tommy out of town this week. That, unfortunately, isn't out of the norm. The vent is something we haven't really thought about. aybe painting it with Kilnz will help.

We didn't think about it either so I decided to mention it.

As Barb pointed out the sleep deprivation improves with time and as your tough parenting skin develops. After 3 years, it is simply making sure your not outsmarted and manipulated by that little person. Much tougher than you think!

Re: The 180gal Family Project

wanted to add one thing! about baby!!! which she is absolutely adorable!!! when you know she is teething... just get a clean washcloth get it wet and throw it in the freezer for a while.. then let her chew on it... that helped with my 3 A LOT!! i remember one of them walked around with the cold cold cloth hanging from their mouth as they walked around and chewed it! LOL

also.. the tank sounds great! i bet it will look awesome when you get it done!

Re: The 180gal Family Project

I feel a little better today but still pretty exhausted. I did, however manage to finish drawing the holes on the tank to be cut out and silicone on some brackets on the baffles so they're easier to silicone in place. I took a picture of the tank but you can't really see anything. Olivia was out there with me bopping around in her jogging stroller but I figured that I've already posted more pictures of her than the tank itself so none today.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Nikki just started reading this thread....looking forward to the tank when it's all squared away. Your little one is adorable....I also like th pic of the cat watching the tank. Personally I think your doing an awesome job as a mom and a hobbyist. It takes real guts to be a stay at home mom nowadays....your husband is lucky to have you.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Every time I look at my tank I'm amazed - not only at the diversity of life contained in a tiny 47 gallons, but that I haven't killed anything yet (this is coming from the woman who killed a cactus and, no, I didn't over water it). I was doing normal daily maintenance on my tank this afternoon and noticed that I have huge colonies of coraline algae growing all over the back glass. You may say, "You're just now noticing it?" Most of the back glass is obscured by LR. I have tried to grow coraline algae on my glass ever since we got our first tank 3 years ago so imagine my suprise when I looked around the corner of the tank to see these pretty blooms. It may seem like a nusance to most of you, but to me, it's a good sign of a healthy, balanced tank.

It's difficult to be a female reefer in a place where reefing is dominated by men. I've never seen a woman working at any of our LFS and the fact that the men who work there dismiss me really gets me down sometimes and makes me second guess myself. But today I had that "ah ha" moment where I knew that I'm doing everything right. It makes me even more excited to get our big tank up and running. Tommy has make up class Saturday morning in Pensacola so Mark will be here sometime in the afternoon or Sunday to drill the tank then I can get to plumbing while Tommy's out of town next week.

Re: The 180gal Family Project

Great to hear you had a good day, and congrats on the coralline! I hear you about reefing being Man Dominated; I don't think it's just where you are.. I think it can be said as a general statement. Us womenfolk gotta hang together. We can do this too!
